We're seeking a Senior Data Scientist to join our newly established Data Science team as we build Deltek's first internal advanced analytics capability. Reporting to the Director of Data Science, you'll translate business opportunities into production machine learning solutions and rigorous statistical analyses on our Snowflake intelligent data platform.
This position requires someone who combines strong technical machine learning skills with the ability to conduct thoughtful statistical analysis and communicate findings effectively. You'll work on everything from exploratory analysis to model development to deployment, building predictive capabilities and analytical insights that directly impact business outcomes.
You'll partner closely with our Enterprise Data & Intelligence team, leveraging the modern data stack we've built (Snowflake, dbt, Fivetran) and collaborating across the organization to understand business @context, requirements, and stakeholder needs. This is an opportunity to build a data science practice from the ground up at an established B2B SaaS company, tackling the unique analytical challenges of enterprise software customers with long lifecycles and complex product relationships.
Model Development & Deployment
Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models for customer health scoring, churn prediction, upsell/cross-sell propensity, expansion revenue opportunities, and other business-critical use cases
Build end-to-end ML pipelines including feature engineering, model training, evaluation, and scoring in production
Implement proper model validation techniques including cross-validation, holdout testing, and business metric evaluation
Account for B2B SaaS-specific challenges including long sales cycles, account hierarchies, and multi-product customer journeys
Create reusable, maintainable code following software engineering best practices
Develop monitoring and alerting for model performance degradation and data drift
Statistical Analysis & Exploration
Conduct exploratory data analysis to understand patterns, anomalies, and relationships in business data
Perform statistical tests to validate hypotheses and quantify uncertainty in findings
Analyze model behavior to understand what drives predictions and identify potential biases
Provide statistical rigor in problem framing, methodology selection, and results interpretation
Communication & Business Partnership
Translate complex model results and statistical findings into clear, actionable business insights
Create compelling visualizations and presentations that make technical work accessible to stakeholders
Explain model predictions, confidence intervals, and limitations to non-technical audiences
Present findings to leadership with clear recommendations and articulation of uncertainty
Document analytical approaches, assumptions, and results in ways that build organizational trust
Partner with business stakeholders to frame analytical questions and define success metrics
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with business stakeholders to understand requirements and translate them into technical approaches
Work across teams to validate model outputs and iterate on solutions
Collaborate with Deltek's AI Center of Excellence on integration opportunities
Mentor junior data science team members as the team grows
Contribute to team practices, documentation, and knowledge sharing

Technical Skills
Master's or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Analytics, Machine Learning, or related quantitative field (or Bachelor's with 5+ years relevant experience)
Strong practical experience building and deploying supervised learning models (classification, regression) in production environments
Solid foundation in statistical analysis including hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, and experimental design
Deep understanding of model evaluation metrics, cross-validation techniques, and avoiding common pitfalls (leakage, overfitting)
Proficiency with Python and ML libraries (scikit-learn, XGBoost, pandas, numpy)
Strong SQL skills for feature engineering and working with data warehouses
Professional Skills
Proven ability to translate ambiguous business problems into well-defined analytical and machine learning tasks
Strong communication skills to explain complex technical concepts, statistical trade-offs, model limitations, and analytical findings to diverse audiences
Experience creating presentations and visualizations that effectively communicate technical work to non-technical stakeholders
Track record of delivering ML projects from conception through production deployment
Experience collaborating across teams (data engineering, product, business stakeholders)
Demonstrated ability to work independently while contributing to team knowledge and practices
