Summary The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia is unique in the size and the scope of its work. It serves as both the local and the federal prosecutor for the nation's capital. On the local side, AUSAs assigned to the Superior Court Division prosecute cases ranging from misdemeanors to homicides. On the federal side, AUSAs assigned to the Criminal Division prosecute federal crimes. The Civil Division further defends the United States in civil suits brought in the District of Columbia. Responsibilities If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for managing professional staff, maintaining databases and collateral-attack motion cases in the Appellate Division in the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia. Typical work assignments will include: -Plan, organize and prioritize the functions, projects, and work assigned to the non-attorney support staff. -Plan and/or oversee the planning of work schedules and sequence of operations among the team to ensure an even workflow, and timeliness in meeting all deadlines. -Develop and oversee the provision of on-the-job training in all areas of work, as well as training in new procedures, processes and methods. -Oversee the timely preparation and assembling of legal correspondence and documents in connection with cases handled in the Division, and provide quality control of outgoing documents in accordance with court of appeals' requirements. -Ensure that court pleading and legal documents are properly filed with the court clerks and appropriately served on the opposing counsel. -Handles all collateral-attack motion practice cases. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To be found qualified at the GS-13 level you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience that has equipped you with the competencies needed to perform the job duties. Examples of specialized experience are: supervising and evaluating paralegals and other support staff members; preparing, monitoring, and updating automated tracking reports and court dockets; drafting procedural motions utilizing legal research and writing skills; monitoring the workflow within the Division to ensure all pleadings are timely filed; coordinating with the information technology staff in developing, obtaining, testing, and installing hardware and software for improving existing systems in the division.
