Position Details
General Statement
MSU Academic Technology and Outreach ( ATO ) develops and delivers academic outreach and non-credit education programs to a wide variety of statewide stakeholders. In addition, ATO supports faculty and students in the effective use of instructional technology. The Marketing and Outreach Specialist is critical to creating awareness for ATO courses, programs and services supporting the education needs of lifelong learners.
Duties and Responsibilities
Collaborate and consult with ATO leadership, staff and partners on marketing and communications needs.
Develop, implement, evaluate and regularly update ATO marketing and communications plans and procedures.
Facilitate the design, production, and dissemination of marketing and communications materials
Lead public relations efforts to raise community awareness and recruit non-credit continuing and professional education partners and students.
Ensure alignment with print and digital communication standards and MSU's branding guidelines as articulated by MSU Communications. Coordinate with MSU Communications and other on- and off-campus communications and media professionals.
Lead marketing and communication efforts for a wide range of ATO initiatives including non-credit education, academic outreach and academic learning technology support.
Develop and implement marketing and communication plans for non-credit programs, outreach activities and academic technology resources in coordination with ATO leadership and program managers.
Research and identify appropriate markets for various ATO offerings and facilitate the production and distribution of timely marketing and communications materials; communication formats include print (flyers, ads, press releases, annual reports, articles, etc.) and electronic (website, social media, digital ads, etc.).
Collect relevant marketing and communications data and report on key performance indicators.
Collaborate on grant proposals by supporting research, broader impact development, content writing, editing and design elements.
Manage continuing and professional education student recruitment efforts.
Oversee and execute ATO student recruitment at outreach at community events, information fairs and other public relations opportunities.
Serve as a primary representative of ATO and deliver general ATO presentations to a variety of audiences as requested.
Actively attend ongoing ATO courses, programs and grant-funded events to document the student experience through photos, video and participant quotes.
Engage with instructors and content experts as needed to accurately and effectively convey course and program information to the public and funding agencies.
Work with Registration Coordinator to collect relevant recruitment data and report on key performance indicators.
Ensure MSU ATO brand consistency and alignment with University Communications best practices.
Oversee the overall content and look of the MSU ATO website in coordination with the ATO web manager and within the bounds of the university's Content Management System and web guidelines.
Advise internal instructional designers, program managers and additional staff members in MSU / ATO brand practices and procedures.
Serve as the liaison between MSU Communications and other on- and off-campus communication professionals to ensure brand consistency for all ATO program materials.
Required Qualifications - Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or related field.
Demonstrated experience writing and producing effective print and electronic communications materials and two years minimum experience in a related position.
Familiarity with design and/or web content management software or platforms.
Demonstrated experience working in close collaboration with other staff.

Experience working in a higher education setting
Experience preparing and presenting content to a variety of audiences.
