Job Summary:

Obtains information from incoming calls to schedule, cancel, and reschedule exams.

Prints reminder letters and patient instructions and then prepares them to be mailed.

Verifies with physicians and patients when appointments are rescheduled, missed and/or canceled.

Verifies faxed order to what has been scheduled in the Scheduler.

Checks for no-shows, cancellations, and attended appointments from current day's schedule and makes appropriate changes.

Prepares end-of-the-day schedules.

Provides education for patients about exams, preparations for exams, insurance authorizations and possible lab work needed for exams.

Maintains and distributes accordingly a daily preauthorization report.

Edits availability of resources: vacations, staff illness, equipment failure or maintenance.

Schedules mammograms and verifies that the proper prior year's mammogram report is available for comparison.

Preregisters all patients by verifying personal and insurance information and entering into the computer for the scheduled appointment.

Seeks direction and guidance as needed for performance of duties.

Respects at all times the confidentiality of patients/coworkers' information.

Responds promptly and positively when directed to perform duties.

Works well with supervisor and those in authority.

Always attempts to report to work on time at start of each shift and after meal breaks.

Follows through on assignments, reporting any incomplete work to supervisor.

Observes hospital dress code guidelines and wears identification badge at all times.

Does not abuse or take advantage of sick time or personal days.

Provides proper notification for absences and tardiness, is punctual at start of shift.

Observes facility policy regarding smoking regulations, telephone usage and other related rules governing conduct while at work.

Attends all department meetings; reads minutes.

Actively participates in the department's quality improvement activities.

Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility.

Skill/Education Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent required.

One year of scheduling experience is preferred.

Basic computer knowledge, data entry skills
