Summary About the Position: This position is assigned to the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy (DASD (MC&FP), Assistant Secretary of Defense for Manpower and Reserve Affairs (M&RA), Office of the Under Secretary of Defense, Personnel and Readiness (USD (P&R)). This position may be eligible for situational telework as determined by the agency policy. Responsibilities Deals with significant and complex issues to respond to the needs of service members and their families. Initiates partnerships with military services and reserve components to resolve a variety of complex issues involving service members and their families. Serves as the Department's subject matter expert in the sensitive and complex area of supporting family members with special medical and/or educational needs. Identifies and investigates potential problem areas to develop solutions and/or new management and program objectives as appropriate. Maintains a high level of awareness of program and regulatory requirements, management principles, and the application of technology to community support programs. Prepares testimony for principal members of OSD appearing before Congress. Delivers presentations and provides training to military and civilian audiences on programs and services available for service members and their families related to special medical and/or educational needs. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes developing a variety of programs responsive to the needs of service members and their families, conducting special assignments on high-priority issues, reviewing assigned programs for potential deficiencies, implementing changes to programs, and leading employees in the performance of work objectives set by the supervisor. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-14). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-14). Education Additional Information Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement. Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement. You may claim Military Spouse preference.
