TEFA will give eligible families the flexibility to use their TEFA funds on a wide range of approved educational services and#8212; from private school tuition to tutoring, textbooks and more. The Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts will oversee the program to ensure those funds are used properly. The Operations Support Legal Services Division is seeking to hire a Program Specialist in the Open Records section to assist with an ever-increasing volume of direct open records requests related to the TEFA program.Work HoursMonday through Friday, 40 hours a week with occasional evening, weekend hours and holidays. Hours may change based on business need.
Qualifications: Minimum QualificationsGraduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelorand#8217;s degree.Experience:and#8226; Two (2) yearsand#8217; experience working with Texas Public Information Act.and#8226; Experience working with attorneys in referring requests to the Attorney General for a decision or ruling.and#8226; Some experience working with large data sets.and#8226; Experience working with legal staff in a state agency or similar legal department.Preferred QualificationsPreferred Education:and#8226; Paralegal or communications degree Preferred Experience:and#8226; Drafting policies and procedures.and#8226; Some data analysis and research experience.and#8226; Experience with Word, Excel, and Outlook.and#8226; Experience handling requests via an online portal.and#8226; Managing files and records for a governmental legal department.and#8226; Formatting, proofing, and editing legal drafts, memos or publications.and#8226; Experience with Word, Excel, and Outlook.Substitutionsand#8226; One (1) additional years of the experience started above may be substituted for one another with a maximum substitution of 120 semester hours (or four years)Licenses and CertificationsIn this role you will:and#8226; Handles Public Information Act requests including complex requests that require research and redaction. Assists attorneys in responding to requests including filing requests with the Attorney General and with complaints via the Attorney Generaland#8217;s complaints process. Trains other staff.as needed. Acts as a resource for other divisions and the public for open records requests.and#8226; Drafts policies, procedures, and other documents as needed.
