The Senior Vice President (SVP) - Markets at Health Alliance Plan (HAP) is a high-impact opportunity to shape the growth and product strategy for HAP, an organization committed to delivering exceptional, accessible care. This is a pivotal role responsible for driving enterprise-wide membership and revenue growth through bold strategy, market insight, and product innovation. Reporting directly to the HAP President, the SVP, Markets provides executive leadership at HAP to drive revenue growth, market expansion, product diversification that align with organizational goals and strategic plans. Working closely with the executive leadership team, the SVP develops and implements strategies to meet and exceed membership and revenue targets through innovative products, pricing, market segmentation, and strategic partnerships. This leader coordinates business processes across Business Development, Commercial Sales, Government Programs, Product and Community Outreach to optimize effectiveness. Represents HAP in the community and various Henry Ford Health forums while fostering and building strong relationships. Serves as HAP's public face to advance its position as a leading regional health plan.
Key Responsibilities:
Enterprise Growth Leadership
Serves as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team responsible for overall business performance and organizational growth.
Develops and leads a comprehensive growth strategy that integrates commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, and Government lines of business to expand HAP's market footprint and revenue base.
Leads and aligns Business Development, Commercial Sales, Government Programs, and Product Development to achieve enterprise growth goals.
Oversees business forecasting, and execution of initiatives that drive membership growth, customer acquisition, and retention across all markets.
Partners with internal teams to support the strategic plan for all sales and business development.
Sales & Distribution
Directs all distribution channels, including broker/consultant networks, direct sales, and strategic partnerships, to optimize reach and effectiveness.
Establishes sales targets, incentive structures, and performance metrics that drive accountability and results across the sales organization.
Ensures seamless coordination and execution of new business quotes, renewals, and pricing strategies in collaboration with internal teams.
Strengthens relationships with consultants, producers, and key employer groups to position HAP as a partner of choice.
Leads all member retention efforts across all lines of business.
Product Strategy & Innovation
Oversee product, ensuring new offerings are responsive to customer needs, financially sound, and aligned with market trends.
Partners with Finance, Underwriting, and Actuarial teams to develop competitive pricing and ensure profitable product portfolios.
Advances innovation across product lines, including self-insured, rental network, and ancillary offerings, to enhance HAP's competitive position.
Collaborates with Population Health, Clinical Operations, and Care Management to align growth initiatives with value-based care strategies.
Partnerships & Market Development
Cultivates strategic partnerships, joint ventures, and affiliations that expand HAP's reach and capabilities.
Leads enterprise business development efforts that position HAP for sustained growth in an evolving healthcare landscape.
Represents HAP within the community, industry forums, and government channels to strengthen brand visibility and advocacy.
Supports HAP's relationship with Henry Ford Health and other system partners to drive integration and enterprise-wide growth initiatives.
Talent & Culture
Builds and maintains a high-performing, accountable, and engaged growth organization.
Partners with Human Resources to assess, recruit, and develop top talent across sales and business development functions.
Fosters a culture of performance, collaboration, and continuous improvement with emphasis on customer service excellence and results orientation.
Provides leadership in collective bargaining processes related to sales functions in collaboration with Human Resources.
Strategic Financial Management
Collaborates with the CFO to ensure growth strategies align with financial performance targets and compliance requirements.
Oversee development of budgets, KPIs, and operational plans that drive financial sustainability and growth.
Monitors market trends and competitor dynamics to proactively adapt strategy and maintain market leadership.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in business, health administration, or related field preferred.
Minimum 15 years of progressive leadership experience in health insurance, managed care, or related industries with a proven record of driving sales and revenue growth.
Demonstrated success leading multi-line product portfolios and complex distribution channels.
Strong financial acumen with the ability to develop and execute operational and strategic plans.
Experience building and maintaining senior-level relationships with employer groups, producers, consultants, unions, and community leaders.
Proven success developing and executing growth strategies in highly competitive and regulated environments.
Demonstrated leadership in mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, or strategic partnerships.
Experience working in diverse, urban markets strongly preferred.
