This position exists to provide operational services for the buildings and grounds at the Hibbing Lands and Minerals office and facility. A significant component of the operational duties will be within the state drill core library. Other work may include assisting Division staff as needed on special projects. This position requires the skills necessary to operate mobile equipment and industrial machinery at the facility as well as to also identify and perform or assist with general repairs and maintenance to all buildings and grounds at the Hibbing Lands and Minerals office, ensuring a safe, secure and satisfying environment for staff and the public.
Responsibilities:
Perform operations, maintenance and other facility support as part of the Mineral Operations team for the Hibbing Minerals facility and grounds, to ensure a safe, secure and satisfying environment for staff and visitors.
Work at the Drill Core Library in conjunction with other Divisional staff to ensure safe and effective operations.
Work with Engineering, Mineral Potential and Research groups and Division staff on projects as needed. These assignments may include but are not limited to assistance on survey projects, well and exploration drilling sites, construction of research projects, mine inspections, sample collecting, sample preparation, and organization of Division data, records, and maps.
Minimum Qualifications
Basic knowledge of computer software, such as Microsoft Office sufficient to enter field and sample data and prepare simple queries and reports.
Knowledge of building maintenance functions and possessing basic skills in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, construction, mechanics, etc. to perform maintenance and repairs at the Hibbing Minerals facility.
Ability to operate snow and lawn equipment to effectively maintain the grounds associated with the office.
Effective communication skills to interact with the public, division staff along with other state, federal and local units of government, and related segments of private industry.
Basic knowledge of geological or engineering practices, field surveying, drafting, sampling and reading technical instruments sufficient to assist resource specialists.
Ability to operate, maintain, troubleshoot and/or repair drill rigs and other equipment associated with field projects.
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of surveying principles and geographic information system (GIS) mapping sufficient to interpret topographic base mapping, geometric alignments, and property boundaries with minimal assistance from others.
Unrestricted Class A Driver's License with a clear driving record.
State of Minnesota Special Class Engineer Boiler License.
Additional Requirements
This position requires an unrestricted Class D Driver's license with a clear driving record; per DNR Fleet Policy, only those 18 years of age or older with a valid driver's license may operate equipment and vehicles on behalf of the Agency.
