The Minnesota State Board of Investment is responsible for the investment management of various retirement funds, trust funds, and cash accounts for the State of Minnesota. The Minnesota State Board of Investment (SBI) is established by Article XI of the Minnesota Constitution to invest all state funds. Its membership as specified in the Constitution is comprised of the Governor (who is designated as chair), State Auditor, Secretary of State, and Attorney General.
The State Board of Investment (SBI) is seeking a highly motivated Investment Professional to lead and manage the Performance Analytics team. This team is responsible for collecting, monitoring, reconciling, and reporting performance data to ensure the highest standards of accuracy, consistency, and timeliness. Performance information is delivered to senior leadership, the Board, the Investment Advisory Committee, and investment team leads for all assets under the firm's management.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the precision, integrity, and timely distribution of performance information, while also driving enhancements in processes, systems, and reporting frameworks. The role will work closely with the internal financial services team, the risk team, custodians, plan service providers, and senior leadership to meet the SBI's performance data needs and support decision-making at the highest levels.
Primary Responsibilities
Set the team's strategy and direction to align with organizational goals.
Direct and oversee the completion of ad-hoc and ongoing performance projects.
Serve as the subject matter expert for investment performance, SBI fund structure, and data sources, with an eye to industry best practices.
Ensure data integrity, consistency, and accuracy across custodial data, plan accounting, internal databases, and all performance and attribution reports.
Collaborate across teams (investment, risk, operations, compliance) and with external partners (custodians, plan administrators, consultants) to ensure the governance and transparency of performance figures.
Contribute to strategic initiatives such as asset allocation studies, policy reviews, system enhancements, and performance measurement improvements.
Train and mentor junior colleagues to develop performance measurement expertise within the team.
Act as a primary point of contact for performance-related inquiries, issues, and change management.
Minimum Qualifications
Five (5) or more years of professional experience in investment performance reporting, fund accounting, or similar analytical roles.
Two (2) or more years of leadership or team management experience.
Experience in investment performance measurement, reporting, analysis, and GIPS standards.
Strong understanding of accounting principles related to investment accounting and Net Asset Value (NAV) valuation.
Strong knowledge of investment concepts, performance, attribution analysis, risk statistics, and portfolio characteristics.
Experience with performance systems and investment analytics platforms.
Advanced analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
Ten (10) or more years of professional experience in investment performance reporting, fund accounting, or similar analytical roles.
Proficiency in modern programming language(s) such as SQL or Python, and advanced analytical techniques.
Experience in designing integrated data models, reports, and interactive dashboards using artificial intelligence (AI) tools.
CIPM, CFA, and/or advanced degree preferred.
