2026 Program Information
Duquesne Light Company offers summer internships that provide a hands-on, meaningful employment opportunity in a supportive setting that cultivates learning and collaboration. Duquesne Light's internship program will provide you with a valuable experience and a solid start to your career in various disciplines.
Internships are full-time (40 hours/week), paid, and run for 12 weeks (May-August).
Internships are located in Pittsburgh and follow DLH's Hybrid Work Model (described below).
Candidates must be full-time, degree-seeking students enrolled in an accredited college or university and have completed their Sophomore year of studies.
Candidates must have at least one semester remaining after completion of the internship/must not have graduated prior to the internship starting.
Candidates must be in good academic standing.
Candidates must be willing to work the required schedule as defined in the job description.
Demonstrated leadership ability through studies, employment or extracurricular activities.
Aptitude for problem solving; strong communication skills.
Overall Purpose
As part of its Clean Energy Future for All vision, Duquesne Light Company (DLC) empowers customers to experience the benefits of electrification. The Electrification Solutions Intern will join a dynamic team that serves as a trusted partner, delivering innovative solutions that reduce barriers to adoption and optimize grid use to advance electrification. In this role, the intern will support the administration of innovative load management pilots, help drive customer awareness of electric technologies, and assist in deploying key technologies, such as EV charging, heat pumps, and induction cooktops, across homes, businesses, and communities throughout the Pittsburgh region.
Job Responsibilities:
Collaborate with the Electrification Solutions Team and cross-functional groups to support the execution of DLC's electrification and load management strategy.
Research and implement strategies to enhance customer experience with DLC's load management programs, including time-of-use rates and summer rewards.
Promote and help administer DLC's load management offerings through activities such as benchmarking, marketing, application review, reporting, and program evaluation.
Analyze and report on the benefits and impacts of load management programs, including demand reduction, grid performance, cost-effectiveness, and customer satisfaction.
Research and respond to customer and stakeholder inquiries related to load management and electrification.
Coordinate with the outreach team to support customer education and awareness efforts around electrification and load management.
Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support team and business needs.
Education/Experience
Applicants must be currently enrolled in a BS or MS program in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Energy Systems, Data Science, Business Administration, Marketing, Economics, or Public Policy
Skills/Abilities
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products. Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented environment.
Hybrid Work
All internships follow our hybrid work model, with a minimum of two days working in the office and the remaining days working remotely. Interns must be in the immediate Pittsburgh area for the summer. Reporting location and frequency may be subject to change based on job role and department needs.
