GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Wyoming Retirement System (WRS) Senior Investment Accounting Analyst is responsible for performing daily investment accounting tasks, assisting with the reconciliation of investment records, and supporting the preparation of financial accounting statements. This role contributes to the accuracy and integrity of the Wyoming Retirement System's investment data, supporting the Investment Accounting Manager and the broader finance team.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.
Performs daily investment accounting activities, including reconciliation of investment transactions (purchases, sales, income, expenses) for various investment transactions such as fixed income, cash management, domestic and international equity, and alternative investments.
Assists with the reconciliation of investment manager statements with the custodian and bank records, identifying and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner.
Tracks and monitors the receipt of investment manager reports and statements to ensure all necessary documentation is available for reconciliation and reporting.
Enters and maintains accurate investment data within the agency's fiscal reporting and control systems.
Assists in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual investment reports, including summaries of investment income, expenses, gains and losses.
Supports the Investment Accounting Manager in compiling data for the investment accounting sections of the WRS Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
Gathers information and documentation required for external audits, working collaboratively with the Investment Accounting Manager and external auditors.
Helps ensure compliance with General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards by applying established procedures.
Assists with the classification of investment asset @type allocations.
Maintains organized and accessible investment accounting records and documentation.
Participates in training and professional development activities to enhance knowledge of accounting principles, investment @types, and relevant software.
Communicates effectively with internal WRS staff and external parties (e.g. custodian bank, investment managers) regarding routine data requests and inquiries.
Performs ad-hoc research and date compilation as requested by the Investment Accounting Manager or other finance team members.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE:
Act as a key resource for evaluating, researching, and resolving complex investment accounting challenges.Collaborates on the design and implementation of accounting systems, records, and procedures to adapt to evolving requirements.
Monitor investment expenditures to ensure strict adherence to GAAP and actively support annual year-end closing processes.
Maintain strong internal controls, comprehensive system documentation, and optimized workflow processes for financial systems, to ensure accurate and timely investment accounting information.
Rigorously review monthly investment financial reports, identifying and correcting all discrepancies.
Proactively monitor cash liquidity needs for individual investment funds.
Assist in the meticulous reconciliation of internal accounting reports and schedules against external custodian and investment consultant reports.
Essential skills include strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other office software, effective communication , and the ability to adapt to new accounting standards and investment instruments while working collaboratively.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree (typically in Finance)
Experience:
1-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Finance) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Accounting Analyst
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Finance) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Accounting Analyst

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, etc.
