Description
Overview:
The Estimator is responsible for preparing cost estimates for construction projects or services in sectors like manufacturing, energy, and construction. This role involves analyzing project plans, specifications, and other documents to estimate project costs, including materials, labor, and equipment.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
May lead or mentor junior estimators and support staff.
Coordinates with project teams and departments to gather accurate pricing and project information.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Reviews and interprets project documents (drawings, specifications, proposals) to identify what is needed for a project.
Bids on 2 to 4 jobs per week; strives for 40% bid acceptance.
Develop and maintain relationships with all project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, and estimators.
Maintains open and frequent communication with PMs, other Estimators, Foremen, General Foremen, Superintendents, Subcontractors, Accounting team, vendors, owners, and clients.
Prepares detailed cost estimates by analyzing plans and specifications and identifying labor, material, and time requirements.
Obtains bids from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials, identifying qualified subcontractors, and negotiating prices.
Evaluate offers to purchase by costing changes, additions, and site requirements.
Presents prepared estimates by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive
Maintains cost database by entering and backing up data.
Conducts gap analysis when projects close, comparing actual costs to anticipated costs, profits, and timelines; makes recommendations for future bids; communicates lessons learned to all appropriate parties to prevent mistakes and repetitive problems; seeks ways to improve scheduling, quality, efficiency, communication,, and procedures.
Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
Cross-train in all facets of the Commercial and Industrial Division, preparing to fill in for anyone absent and grow in responsibility and scope over time.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related field.
5+ Construction or Electrical contracting experience required.
Degree may count towards years of experience at the employer's discretion.
Proven experience as an estimator in commercial and industrial projects.
Strong understanding of construction processes, materials, and market trends.
Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Accubid, Prima Vera, AutoCAD, Revit, CostX), MS Office Suite.
Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail.
Strong communication and negotiation skills.

Physical Requirements:
Primarily an office-based role requiring long periods of desk work and computer use.
May require occasional visits to construction sites, requiring walking, standing, and minor lifting.

Travel Requirements:
Extensive; primarily local travel to project sites for assessments and meetings.
Occasional travel for training, conferences, and to meet with clients or vendors.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $63.00/hr.
