Job Description
The Director of Institutional Research leads a team of analysts who are proactive and responsive to the institutional and academic data reporting needs from various constituent groups, including but not limited to internal, state, federal, and various accrediting agencies. The Director collaborates with Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and other business units to determine progress on institutional and program goals, including those related to the assessment of student learning. The Director promotes evidence-based decision-making to improve institutional effectiveness and inclusion. The Director is a participating member of the President's Advisory Council and interacts regularly across the institution to understand the research needs and to determine how IR can assist in improving decision-making through the use of data. In addition to fulfilling these leadership responsibilities, the Director leads and supervises the IR team on day-to-day tasks of data collection, analysis, and report preparation. This position also ensures that the values and the integrity of equity and inclusion are incorporated in research and leadership.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESULTS
Lead, supervise, and direct department personnel, including hiring, coaching and developing, promoting, rewarding, assigning and reviewing work, directing work, approving transfers, disciplining, suspending, discharging, and adjusting grievances to ensure that staff are skilled and available as needed, collective bargaining agreements and Minnesota State policies and procedures are implemented and appropriately enforced, and projects are staffed correctly to meet deadlines and stay within budget.
Manages daily activities of the department with regard to recruiting and selection, hiring and terminating, training, professional development, mentoring, counseling, and performance evaluations.
Priority: Essential Percent of Time: 20%
Provide leadership, coordination, and expertise for program evaluation, student learning, and academic assessment (class, program, and institutional), and research efforts within the college.
Oversee data and data analysis needs to support academic program advancement.
Provide leadership to support academic and institutional assessment activities.
Work with stakeholders to lead assessment activities and institutional advancement.

Lead and oversee all data governance, compliance, assessment, and reporting efforts.
Manage institutional data governance practices, including federal and accreditation compliance.
Act as the institutional data practices point of contact, responding to data requests, managing institutional data policies, and responding to data-related communications from all external audiences.
Ensure that information is collected and official reports are produced in a timely manner to maintain compliance with Federal, State, System, and College reporting requirements.
Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of online databases as well as the composite information system storing archival information for retrieval to enhance reporting.

Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to increase the use of data to transform academic divisions and institutional effectiveness.
Conduct and facilitate workshops on assessment and provide guidance for college divisions and departments in the development of assessment plans and the analysis of assessment results.
Develop technologically driven enhancements for providing internal constituents with access to data and information for decision-making.
Analyze college data and prepare reports and executive summaries to be used in institutional and program decision-making.
Regularly provide reports and present on institutional data to the college administration.

Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department and maintain the reputation of the organization as a viable business partner.
Salary Range:
$37.60 ($78,509) - $54,16 ($113,086)
Minimum Qualifications
Five (5)* years of experience in institutional research and/or assessing academic outcomes
Three (3) years of experience in tracking Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and other institutional indicators of success.
Experience leading teams for research and/or assessment.
Proficiency in utilizing computer applications, including statistical analysis, spreadsheets, word processing, statistical software, and database software.
Experience participating in continuous improvement and/or strategic planning efforts in educational institutions or other organizations.
Experience in supporting assessment, planning, and research that contributes to data-driven decision-making.
Demonstrated experience in project management.

*A master's degree in Information Technology or an IT related field substitutes for three (3) years of experience, OR an IT related bachelor's degree substitutes for two (2) years, OR an IT related associate's degree substitutes for one (1) year.
Preferred Qualification
Doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Five (5) years of experience in institutional research and/or assessing academic outcomes.
Graduate level coursework in statistics and research methodology.
Demonstrated experience in supporting a culture of accountability in organizations.
