Job Summary:
The Systems Effectors: Processing, Guidance & Control Center is responsible for algorithm development including Guidance, Navigation, and Control; radio frequency (RF) and electro-optical/infrared (EO-IR) Signal Processing (SP); and missile- and sensor-level Modeling and Simulation for Raytheon's broad portfolio of projects, programs, and products. In the GNC department, we design, integrate, and optimize effector guidance, tracking, navigation, and estimation algorithms to meet mission objectives. We support new business initiatives and help develop & execute technology roadmaps.
The Effectors PG&C Center is currently hiring for a Systems engineering Intern - GNC Engineer position in Tucson, AZ to support execution of the portfolio of current and upcoming missile programs.
As a Systems engineering Intern - GNC Engineer, you will participate in the evaluation, design, implementation, and integration of embedded software algorithms. You will support a team of engineers in an integrated product team that will be responsible for tactical embedded software, firmware, and integrated flight software 6 Degrees-of-Freedom simulations to achieve overall system performance requirements.
This position is an onsite role located in Tucson, AZ.
This position can be a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior Technical Intern based on the candidate's qualifications and standing as outlined below:
(Sophomore Technical Intern) - must be enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program and classified as a Sophomore by start of internship and provide proof of graduation prior to first day of employment.
(Junior Technical Intern) - must be enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program and classified as a Junior by start of internship and provide proof of graduation prior to first day of employment.
(Senior Technical Intern)- must be enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program and classified as a Senior by start of internship and provide proof of graduation prior to first day of employment.
What You Will Do
You will support missile guidance tasks including guidance law development, state estimation, sensor fusion, trajectory shaping, and miss distance performance optimization.
You will participate in navigation tasks including system trade studies, component modeling of inertial measurement units (IMU), global positioning systems (GPS), as well as simulation of navigation algorithms, particularly Kalman filters.
You will support control system tasks including autopilot, control actuation system, mechanism, motor control, and gimbaled seeker servo design.
You will work with embedded software including real-time GNC algorithm development for missiles system products.
You will support missile performance analysis including model development, system optimization, and Monte Carlo assessments with expected system disturbances.
Support systems requirement development and analysis.
Support activities in our labs and document requirement verifications.
Prepare and present results in reports and briefings to internal or external stakeholders
Qualifications You Must Have
This position is for an intern who is enrolled in a Bachelor's (or higher) degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with 12 months or less of professional experience (excluding internships)
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer
Specific majors: Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or Systems Engineering
3.0 cumulative GPA or higher
Experience with Matlab, C, C++, Object Oriented design?systems?
Experience with Unix and/or Linux operating systems
Coursework or work experience including one or more of the following: classical control theory, digital and modern control systems, dynamics, Kalman filter design?or signal processing.?
Class projects, professional internships, or academic research demonstrating the ability to apply technical course work or computer skills.?
Effective communication and organization skills.?
Ability to analyze issues and define solutions
Self-starter with the ability to independently pursue information and solve problems
Proven strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities

The salary range for this role is 37,000 USD - 82,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
