Overview
Manages all day-to-day operations of their assigned division of the Safety and Security Department. Participates in the decision-making process leading to the development and delivery of efficient security services to meet Environment of Care, Joint Commission, NFPA, and International Fire Code standards for patients, visitors, medical staff, staff and affiliates that work in or enter any Dartmouth Health facility. Assists as directed with Security needs at other D-H facilities. Provides the institution with a command presence in emergent situations and participates in Incident Command (ICS) as assigned.
Responsibilities
Manages security responsibilities and other assigned duties and tasks. Provides performance improvement plans and results to Director and identified Committees as required. Ensures the meeting of regulatory, training and documentation requirements for both internal and external inspections/reviews of safety and security.
Assists the Director in assessing the department’s budget priorities and in managing expenses. Documents variances such that they can be are readily explained and approved by the Director. Assists the Director in submitting capital or operating project materials on routine and emergent projects.
Supervises assigned Safety and Security personnel.
Establishes staff training guidelines for supervisors to help enhance skill-set development of subordinates. Monitors compliance with training objectives and reports results to appropriate leadership and committees. Mentors staff and future leaders toward achieving high levels for potential growth and success.
Actively participates in assigned committees and project-task forces in areas of responsibility as well as special requests. Provides consultations and advice and acts upon those recommendations that are approved for action.
Monitor operational systems including, but not limited to controlled access, video surveillance, alarms, infant security, radio and communications.
Overseen any assigned software/hardware/security systems as necessary.
As needed, conducts and/or oversees investigations and debriefings in crisis intervention involving patients, visitors and/or staff. Maintains appropriate levels of privacy while providing sufficient levels of information to concerned audiences.
Advises department and unit leadership and others on areas of expertise so that best possible outcomes can be reached. Compromises when appropriate on procedural areas while maintaining a solid footing on Safety and Security Department and policy needs.
Via meetings or identified reports, keeps the department Director updated on emergencies, areas and topics of current, on-going or developing concern.
Conducts proactive risk and threat assessments that address areas identified in hazard vulnerability analysis and other industry standards, guidelines and best practices.
Monitors the activities and duties of assigned staff and supervises the actions of department Supervisors to ensure reports, assignments, training requirements, and department policies and procedures are completed on time and in compliance.
Ensures connected Facility Security and Parking systems are maintained in a functional state. Recommends new and/or improved systems detailed with benefits provided, potential concerns for consideration, detailed expenditures with total costs and implementation timelines.
Establishes Safety and Security department policies and/or procedures including but not limited to patrol responsibilities, routine and emergency call response, preventive measures and training for staff to provide a positive safety culture using established industry standards and best practices. Works in conjunction with the Director to determine whether the scope of implementation should be at the Hospital-level or Enterprise-wide.
Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
Five (5) years of security or law enforcement supervisory experience or significantly similar management experience.
Preferred: Bachelors' degree in Criminal Justice, Security, Business Administration, or Security related field preferred.
Preferred: Knowledge of training programs from the International Association for Healthcare Safety and Security, American Society of Industrial Security and related organizations
Preferred: Experience using and knowledge of Environment of Care Standards under The Joint Commission related directly to Security
Required Licensure/Certifications
Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required in accordance with D-H's Driver Disqualifications Guidelines.
Must maintain Taser, Handcuff, and Pepper Gel certification, if applicable.
Must complete all required training and pass minimal physical requirements within 90 days from date of hire and as required thereafter.

Pay Range:$77,792.00/Yr. - $124,467.20/Yr. (Based on 40 hours per week, otherwise pro rata)
