APPROXIMATE ANNUAL SALARY - $52,200.00 to $76,608.72 PAY GRADE: 30

Generally, salaries start at the lowest level of a step 1 and increase with each year of service to the highest level of a step 10.

The Position

Tax Examiners are responsible for licensing/registration, collecting taxes and fees, and assisting taxpayers to ensure compliance with the applicable tax and registration statutes.

Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.

This position is located in the Reno District Office Revenue/Compliance section. Tax Examiners are responsible for assisting taxpayers with registrations, collection of fees and to resolve account issues by analyzing and correcting taxpayer accounts for discrepancies in reporting. Tax Examiners answer taxability questions over the telephone, in person and through correspondence. The main purpose of the Tax Examiner is to assist the taxpayers quickly and accurately by applying laws and statutes. To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience in bookkeeping, collections, or the interpretation and application of policies, regulations and/or legal requirements equivalent to an Administrative Assistant III or Accounting Assistant III in Nevada State service; OR Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience as stated above; OR one year of experience as a Tax Examiner I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirements

A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.

A valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continued employment.

The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview. The hiring agency may require specific skills related testing as part of the interviewing process.
