Proven experience in payroll processing, payroll tax, and higher education payroll requirements.

Strong numerical aptitude and attention to detail.

Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Ability to handle sensitive information with integrity and confidentiality.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

Job Description

The Accountant III performs advanced professional accounting tasks using a thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles to solve complex problems. The Accountant III may also be primarily responsible for a segment of the General Accounting operation, or a specialized complex area.

Job Duties

Reconcile payroll general ledger accounts, investigate, and resolve payroll discrepancies or errors, and prepare journal entries to ensure all payroll-related accounts are balanced and accurate.

Identify, reconcile, collect, deposit, and account for employee payroll claims.

Analyze and post payroll expense transfer requests (Payroll Journal requests).

Process payments to third-party payroll vendors.

Collaborate with finance, human resources, and other departments to align payroll processing with employee records.

Maintain accurate payroll records and employee data for reporting purposes.

Prepare payroll reports and documentation for internal and external audits.

Respond to payroll-related queries from employees and resolve issues promptly.

Assist with fiscal year-end AFR payroll reports.

Assist with year-end processing and the distribution of W-2 and 1042-S forms.

Assist with the semimonthly and monthly payroll for faculty, staff, and student employees.

Assist in system upgrades and process improvements working closely with cross-functional teams, including HR, Budget, and IT.

Provide administrative support for various payroll projects.

Stay current with payroll best practices and higher education payroll regulations.
