Job Summary
Under general supervision, is responsible for performing inspection and enforcement work in securing and maintain compliance with rules and regulations relative to an assigned section. Exercises functional supervision over assigned staff.

7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; Monday - Friday
Essential Job Functions
Responds to citizen complaints regarding code violations related to the Historic Preservation Code and Certificates of Appropriateness, conservation districts approved by City Council and other related Unified Development Code regulations.
Coordinates investigative and enforcement work with City staff and the City Attorney's Office for Boarding Home compliance with adopted regulations.
Performs on-site inspections for compliance with new and existing requirements.
Issues written orders for the correction of defects in material or workmanship and any other violation of codes and ordinances.
Notifies contractors when codes violations are found and advises them on the necessary changes or actions that need to be taken to meet code requirements.
Advises and provides information regarding procedures and follow-up actions.
Prepares reports and recommendations showing results of daily inspections and recommends necessary changes and corrections noted from daily inspections.
Prepares and maintains records of Inspectors' Licenses, permits issued, inspections performed, investigations conducted or complaints received.
Assists with more complex inspections to ensure compliance with code requirements, which includes occasional lifting and carrying equipment weighing 50 pounds.
Conducts research and investigations within an assigned area.
Implements personnel rules and standard operating procedures.
Provides training, instruction, and functional supervision for assigned staff.
Monitors field inspectors' work load, quality of work, plan checking abilities, daily inspection reports, investigation reports, vehicle, and overall work performance.
Assists the Inspections Supervisor with the administration of all phases of the programs and assumes the responsibilities of the supervisor in his/her absence.
Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Job Requirements
Graduation from high School or a General Education Development (GED) Certificate.
Six (6) years of increasingly responsible experience in tree surveying, tree preservation care to include: tree pruning, tree planting, tree treatment applications, consultation, landscaping, and/or inspections.
Valid Class 'C' Texas Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
ISA Certified Arborist
Knowledge of tree preservation, landscape, buffer, streetscape, oak wilt, tree maintenance license codes and ordinances.
Knowledge of ANSI A-300 Standards for Tree Care and Maintenance.
Knowledge of native trees, plants, and other vegetation.
Ability to read construction plans including grading, and elevations.
Basic understanding of plant biology and physiology.
Basic understanding of construction practices.
BMPs for tree preservation on construction sites.
Applicant Information
Unless otherwise stated, applicants are permitted to substitute two years of related full-time experience for one year of higher education or one year of related higher education for two years of experience in order to meet the minimum requirements of the job. One year of full-time experience is defined as 30 or more hours worked per week for 12 months. One year of higher education is defined as 30 credit hours completed at an accredited college or university.

Knowledge of pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.
Knowledge of policies and procedures for the review of applicable plans and the issuance of permits.
Knowledge of various materials and practices used in respective area of expertise.
Knowledge of basic mathematical principles.
Knowledge of safe work practices.
Skill in interpreting and applying pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations.
Skill in conducting research to identify property owners and other responsible parties when a violation occurs.
Skill in responding to inquiries and concerns from the public, City staff, contractors, and architects.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the public.
Ability to inspect and identify violations of applicable codes and ordinances.
Ability to interpret blueprints and schematics.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the job, with or without accommodations.
Working conditions are primarily in a field environment.
