DESCRIPTION
About the Position
Solid Waste Lead worker crews are assigned to the transfer and maintenance of solid waste operations.
Duties include:
Prioritizes and assigns work to lower-level staff; monitors the performance of lower-level staff.
Trains staff on work methods and procedures; and participates on staff evaluations.
Performs preventative maintenance and minor repair activities in area of assignment.
Operates a variety of machinery, vehicles, and equipment, ranging from light to heavy, to complete a variety of activities and tasks.
Performs a variety of complex maintenance duties including assisting in performing inspections of completed work in assigned area of responsibility; responding to customer complaints; and/or performing related duties.
Prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports related to day-to-day operations in assigned area of responsibility.
Monitors available inventory and notifies appropriate individual(s) when stock levels reach specified levels.
May purchase supplies as necessary. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Solid Waste Lead Worker may be responsible for: Inspecting landfill sites to ensure safety compliance; responding to Waste Management complaints and concerns; ordering parts, supplies, materials, and services; scheduling shipments of waste and recyclables.
About the Division:
The Division of Waste Management oversees the management of solid recycling and solid waste in Lane County. The Division's mission is to provide, safe, responsible and economical recycling and disposal services, while respecting the environment and the communities it serves.
Schedule: Wednesday - Saturday 7:00 a.m. - 5:30 pm with a half-hour lunch break.

QUALIFICATIONS
Training:
Up to one year of technical or specialized training beyond high school;
Experience:
Lead Worker - Four years of progressively responsible experience related to area of assignment.
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Competency Levels:
Lead Worker - Basic principles and practices of personnel and equipment management of assignment crews.
Special Requirements:
Possession of a valid Oregon Class A CDL and medical card at time of application.
The selected candidate for this classification are required to take and pass a pre-employment drug test before entering County employment. Employees in this classification are required to participate in an ongoing drug testing program, including, but not limited to, random testing according to the requirements of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).

Health insurance coverage becomes effective the first of the month following your first 30 days as an eligible employee.
