Description

We are looking for a Transportation Manager to lead daily fleet and delivery activities in Baltimore, MD. This role is responsible for keeping transportation operations safe, dependable, and cost-conscious while supporting strong service levels for internal teams and customers. The ideal candidate brings leadership experience, sound knowledge of transportation compliance, and the ability to improve routing, performance, and overall efficiency in a fast-moving environment.

Responsibilities:

Direct day-to-day transportation activities, ensuring shipments, pickups, and route plans are executed on time and with consistent service quality.

Lead drivers and transportation personnel by assigning schedules, providing coaching, monitoring performance, and supporting ongoing development.

Organize routing and dispatch plans to optimize delivery flow, equipment usage, and operational efficiency across transportation activities.

Oversee fleet readiness by tracking preventive maintenance, inspections, fuel consumption, and vehicle-related expenses.

Maintain compliance with applicable transportation and safety regulations, and ensure required records and operational documentation remain current and accurate.

Evaluate delivery results, address service disruptions, and respond to customer concerns with practical and timely solutions.

Partner with warehouse, logistics, purchasing, and customer support teams to align shipment priorities and coordinate transportation needs.

Review transportation spending, identify cost-saving opportunities, and manage relationships with carriers, repair vendors, and other service providers.

Investigate accidents, safety incidents, and performance issues, then implement corrective measures to reduce risk and strengthen operational standards.

Use transportation and fleet tracking systems to monitor activity, generate reports, and support process improvements in safety, productivity, and customer satisfaction.

Requirements - 3-5+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, fleet operations, or a closely related field.

Prior experience supervising drivers, dispatch personnel, or transportation staff in an operational setting.

Strong understanding of transportation regulations, safety expectations, and compliance practices.

Familiarity with transportation management, fleet tracking, or logistics software used to support daily operations.

Ability to manage competing priorities, solve operational problems, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.

Effective communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work across multiple departments and external partners.

Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Logistics, Supply Chain, Business, or a related discipline preferred.

Valid driver's license required; additional licensing may be needed based on operational requirements.
