Job DescriptionPerforms routine (journey-level) customer service work in the Central Records Unit, Information Services Section, Information Technology Services Division. Central Records maintains an extensive catalog of Historical Texas oil and natural gas well records in hard copy, microfilm, and digital formats. Work involves providing external customer service support and receiving and responding to public inquiries for information and/or state services. The Records Researcher maintains and organizes all the official records and assists customers with queries and the retrieval of these records across multiple storage mediums. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.Essential Job DutiesResponds to customer inquiries by phone and in person at the research counterAssists RRC visitors with website navigation and records retrieval Fulfills information or records requests internally, and for the public by researching and retrieving information from multiple records resources: digital and hard copy files, Geographic Information System (GIS) (well mapping), web-based applications (well records), and the mainframe systemCommunicates with customers in a timely manner by telephone, e-mail, and in person, with record inquiries, and according to specific guidelines and proceduresCommunicates with other RRC personnel to facilitate the workflow of incoming RRC forms, permits, payments, and other documentsPerforms additional tasks, as assigned, to maintain workflowWorks Monday-Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM, in-person, at the RRC headquarters in Austin Works independently as well as part of a team For Military Crosswalk information, please visit: https://hr.sao.texas.gov/Compensation/MilitaryCrosswalk/MOSC_AdministrativeSupport.pdf Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or GEDKnowledge of professional office and administrative practices and proceduresInformation research experienceCustomer service experienceOne or more years of relevant professional experiencePreferred QualificationsGeneral knowledge of the Railroad Commission of Texas Oil and Gas Division functionsDetailed familiarity with forms and filing proceduresExperience in the operation of various @types of imaging or microfilm equipmentBachelor's or advanced degree in Library Information Science, records management, research, or a relatedinformation science fieldKnowledge/Skills/AbilitiesKnowledge of professional office protocol and proceduresSkill in using Microsoft Office and other Windows-based PC software applicationsSkill in word processing and mainframe terminal operationSkill in basic mathematical operations, reading and writing comprehension, and professional business writingSkill in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing Demonstrated skill in working on tasks requiring meticulous attention to detail while maintaining a high level of accuracyDemonstrated ability to retrieve and analyze acquired information from hard files, microfilm, and computer databasesAbility to learn and understand oil and gas policy and procedures, and interpret processesAbility to accurately file, sort, alphabetize, organize, and distribute documents and retrieve filesAbility to operate copiers, as well as other general office equipmentAbility to work under pressure and meet deadlinesAbility to lift, carry, and move up to 30 poundsAbility to stoop, reach low and high, push and pull heavy file drawers and/or cartAbility to work around equipment generating heat, noise, and bright reflective lightsPhysical RequirementsThe physical requirements described here are representative of those that an employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to reach high and low; open, close, and retrieve files from file cabinets as well as operate a computer keyboard and appropriate office equipment. The position requires the ability to frequently stand, walk, sit, or stand for long periods of time, lift up to 30 lbs., open filing cabinets, and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.
