Examples of work for this TRANSPORTATION GENERALIST SENIOR (TGS) vacancy include but are not limited to:
Verifies and records incoming material samples.
Conducts all aspects of standardized and specific materials lab testing.
Performs difficult, non-routine materials tests for special studies, circumstances, and investigations.
Calculates test results and inputs data to generate standardized reports.
Performs preliminary analysis of test results.
Maintains, and assists in the testing and calibration of materials lab equipment.
Assists in the delivery of technical certification program training.
Performs snow & ice activities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Examples of work for this specific TRANSPORTATION GENERALIST (TG) vacancy include but are not limited to:
Conducts basic, standardized materials lab testing.
Records test results and provides data to others.
Assists in the maintenance and calibration of materials lab testing equipment.

Minimum Qualifications
Must possess a valid Class D driver's license or an equivalent license from another state and obtain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with no Air Brake Restriction and Tanker Endorsement within 6-months of initial placement into the position and maintain them as a condition of employment.
The level of experience to perform this job at the TRANSPORTATION GENERALIST SENIOR level can be achieved with:
Two (2) years of experience performing materials testing.
OR
One (1) year of experience performing materials testing or related activities and one year in construction inspection.
Education Substitution:A two-year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or the following four-year degrees:Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics; or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience. (In order for education coursework to be considered in lieu of work experience you must submit a copy of your transcripts.)
Working knowledge of English sufficient to read, write, speak and understand oral and written information; communicate with employees and the general public in-person or via two-way radio and other electronic devices; and to maintain routine written logs and simple records.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
Aggregate Production Tester
AND at least two of the following MnDOT Technical Certifications and able to obtain the remaining within one year or as training is available:
Grading and Base Tester Certification
Bituminous Plant Tester Certification
Concrete Field Tester Certification
Concrete Plant Tester Certification
Concrete Strength Tester Certification
Any of the following DESIRED CERTIFICATIONS can substitute for any of the REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS above except for Aggregate Production Tester:
DESIRED CERTIFICATIONS (or able to obtain within one year or as training is available)
Grading and Base Inspector Certification
Bituminous Mix Design Certification
Concrete Field Inspector Certification
Bituminous Street Inspector Certification
The level of experience to perform this job at the TRANSPORTATION GENERALIST level can be achieved with:
One year of experience in a combination of any roadway construction, engineering support or roadways maintenance areas such as: soils, traffic, surveys, design, construction, hydraulics, maintenance etc.
OR
Education Substitution:A two-year Civil or Construction Technology Degree or the following four-year degrees:Architectural, Civil or Mechanical Engineering; Land Surveying / Geomatics; or equivalent may substitute for one year of experience. The incumbent in this position will be subject to drug and alcohol testing. Individuals not currently in the random testing pool must pass a preplacement drug test for evidence of use of marijuana, cocaine, opiates, phencyclidine (PCP), amphetamines (MDMA, MDA and MDEA) and acetyl morphine (6-AM).
The incumbent must also be registered in the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's Commercial Driver's License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse.
The incumbent is required to be immediately accessible to a phone and be able to report to work within one (1) hour of being called.
