Job Description

A client of Insight Global is seeking a contract Material Flow Engineer to support the rapid expansion of its advanced manufacturing operations. This individual will help develop, specify, and implement material-flow, warehouse, and production-line solutions across a growing number of product programs.

The team has expanded quickly from supporting approximately two programs to six committed programs, creating an immediate need for additional engineering capacity. The ideal candidate is comfortable operating with limited direction, adapting to changing plans, and turning loosely defined operational problems into practical, floor-ready solutions.

This engineer will partner with Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain, Quality, Operations, and external vendors to improve material movement, warehouse efficiency, line layouts, production readiness, throughput, and asset utilization. The broader position is responsible for optimizing warehousing and material-flow operations while supporting demanding production and deployment timelines.

Skills and Requirements

Bachelor's degree in engineering. Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline is preferred.

3+ years of engineering experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, factory, or high-rate production environment.

Direct experience improving material flow, production flow, warehouse layout, line-side delivery, facility layout, or intralogistics processes.

Working knowledge of AutoCAD. Advanced drafting expertise is not required, but candidates must be able to understand, review, and make basic updates to layouts.

Experience working with vendors to gather requirements, write specifications or RFPs, evaluate solutions, and support implementation.

Ability to read engineering drawings, CAD data, and technical documentation.

Demonstrated ability to take ownership of ambiguous operational problems and independently drive them to implementation.

Experience in an environment where priorities, layouts, programs, or production requirements change rapidly.

Ability to work onsite for the duration of the engagement and travel up to 25%. - Experience in defense manufacturing, aerospace, robotics, automotive, electronics, industrial equipment, or another complex hardware environment.

Experience designing or improving warehouse operations, production lines, manufacturing cells, workstations, supermarkets, point-of-use storage, or internal logistics systems.

Knowledge of continuous flow, one-piece flow, line balancing, workstation design, and factory or department setup.

Experience with Siemens Plant Simulation, Visual Components, Process Simulation, or similar production-simulation tools.

Familiarity with MES, WMS, ERP, NetSuite, Oracle, or comparable manufacturing and inventory systems.

Lean manufacturing experience, including value-stream mapping, Gemba walks, mistake-proofing, operational analysis, and low-CAPEX process improvement.

Experience using data, reporting tools, or SQL to measure production and inventory performance.

Experience presenting recommendations and project results to cross-functional stakeholders.
