JOB REQUIREMENTS: This position is responsible to assist in providing leadership, planning, coordinating, and management of the Sheriff\'s Office. This position performs its duties to assist the 911 Communications Lieutenant by overseeing the day-to-day operations of the County Communications Center. Position open until filled- Application Deadline Date: September 30, 2026. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provides leadership in attracting, retaining, and developing an engaged workforce in the delivery of superior services to County residents and businesses. Directs employee work and assignments, trains, evaluates work, and provides feedback for performance evaluations. Coordinates and monitors work schedules for division staff. Assists in allocating personnel and reviewing communications coverage. Approves leave time and monitors training schedules. Monitors use of holiday, vacation and/or sick leave, and switching of shifts. Monitors training requirements of staff members for completion. Participates in the recruitment/promotional, discipline, internal investigations, and discharge processes as required. Ensures that policies, procedures, and employee training is in compliance with established mandates for all personnel within the areas of responsibility. Coordinates the Field Training Program for new hires. Analyzes data collected from call reviews, processes and evaluates the data, and makes recommendations to upper management regarding training issues and needs for improvement. Evaluates, recommends, and monitors policies and procedures necessary to maintain best practices, and ensures continual compliance. Ensures that policies, procedures and employee training is in compliance with established mandates for all personnel within the areas of responsibility. Maintains contact with other Public Safety Agencies to determine their needs of service and effectiveness of policy implementation. Addresses public needs in the absence of the Lieutenant. Reports complaints regarding the Communications Center to the Lieutenant. Provides technical consultation to staff/users; participates in ongoing information and training sessions with agencies. Conducts all duties of 911 Communications Officer. Other duties as assigned. REQUIRED JOB COMPETENCIES Ability to use GPS and GIS data relating to county landmarks, roads, and businesses. Ability to learn other agencies working in conjunction with 911 system. Knowledge of Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system functions, call @types, and codes; knowledge of proper call entry for service Law Enforcement and Fire sides of dispatch system. Knowledge of County Paging system for Fire/EMS services and resources available for various agencies served by the County. Ability to think and act quickly, accurately, and calmly in emergency/stressful situations and handle traumatic details/information related to service calls. Ability to establish and maintain accurate records of assigned activities and operations. Ability to interpret and implement local policies and procedures; written instructions, general correspondence; Federal, State, and local regulations. Skill in organizational and time management to prioritize duties to accomplish a high volume of work product while adapting to constant changes in priority. Ability to perform detailed work accurately and independently in compliance with stringent time limits requiring minimal direction and supervision. Knowledge of management and supervisory practices & principles, including the ability to make final employment recommendations, preparing performance evaluations, managing time off, and maintaining personnel records. Ability to adapt and take control of situations, dictating subordinate activities in a responsible manner. Ability to instruct and train in methods and procedures. Ability to think quickly, maintain self-control, and adapt to stressful situations. Knowledge of computer software including word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications consistent for this position. Ability to perform mathematical calculations required of this position. Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively in English in both written and verbal form. Skill in researching and understanding complex written materials. Ability to prepare and maintain accurate and concise records and reports. Ability to apply sound judgment and discretion in performing duties, resolving problems, and interpreting policies and regulations. Ability to handle sensitive interpersonal situations calmly and tactfully. Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with individuals within and outside the organization. Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding business-related files, reports and conversations, within the provision of Open Records laws and other applicable state and federal statutes and regulations. The employee must have the ability to testify in court as a credible and trustworthy witness. ** OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma/equivalent with three (3) years\' work experience in emergency services dispatching. Equivalent combination of education and experience which provides necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. Must successfully pass criminal background check.
