You'll work across all phases of design, from early planning and network architecture development through detailed engineering, construction support, testing, commissioning, and turnover. District Overview
Kiewit Engineering Group, Inc is a full-service consulting and engineering firm serving the infrastructure and engineering markets. Our rapidly growing Industrial Design Group, which includes process, electrical, controls, structural, architectural, geotechnical, and civil disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on EPC and design-build delivery of industrial projects in markets such as Food & Beverage, Consumer Products, Heavy Manufacturing, Industrial Buildings Industrial Water and Utilities.
Location
Position will be located in either Lenexa, Kansas or Lone Tree Colorado. We may consider uniquely, full qualified candidates that meet all or 80% of the requirements in other Kiewit Office Locations. Relocation is offered to Lenexa or Lone Tree only.
Responsibilities
Support and/or Lead Telecom Engineering & Design
Develop telecommunications and low-voltage system designs for industrial facilities, including fiber optic backbone, structured cabling, plant network architecture, wireless and radio coverage, paging/public address, CCTV, security, and access control systems.
Lead telecom scope development from concept through IFC design, construction support, commissioning, and turnover.
Apply NEC, NFPA, TIA/EIA, BICSI, ISA-95, IEC 61850, CSF, NERC / CIP, NIST and various other client standards to produce compliant, constructible designs.
Drive Technical Execution
Produce telecom deliverables such as one-lines, riser diagrams, block diagrams, interconnect diagrams, cable schedules, rack elevations, telecom room layouts, pathway plans, equipment data sheets, and installation details.
Prepare specifications and scopes of work for telecom equipment, cabling, and installation subcontracts.
Evaluate vendor bids, review submittals, and confirm technical compliance with project requirements.
Perform supporting analyses such as fiber optic link loss budgets, bandwidth and latency assessments, pathway fill, and wireless coverage or propagation studies.
Coordinate interfaces with electrical, instrumentation and controls, civil, structural, mechanical, and client IT / OT teams.
Support cybersecure network design through appropriate segmentation, access control, secure communication practices, and coordination with project cybersecurity requirements.
Support Construction & Commissioning
Respond to RFIs and field questions related to telecom systems, network infrastructure, security systems, and low-voltage installation.
Support FATs, site visits, field testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and turnover activities as required.
Identify design constraints, propose practical solutions, and drive cost-effective engineering decisions.
Collaborate & Improve
Work closely with process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and controls, structural, civil, architectural, and construction teams.
Mentor designers and junior engineers, contributing to a culture of technical excellence.
Lead quality checks to ensure accuracy, consistency, constructability, and coordination across design packages.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related technical discipline.
5+ years of relevant experience in telecommunications or low-voltage systems design, preferably for data centers or mission-critical facilities.
Working knowledge of fiber optic and copper structured cabling systems, network topologies, telecom rooms, pathways, and cabling infrastructure.
Experience producing telecom design documents in AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design tools.
Knowledge of applicable codes and standards, including NEC and TIA/EIA structured cabling standards.
Ability to manage multiple assignments, communicate clearly with project teams, clients, and vendors, and work effectively across disciplines.
Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time to project locations
Preferred Experience
Professional Engineer (PE) license.
BICSI RCDD Certification.
BICSI DCDC / OSP / RTPM credentials.
Experience with industrial control system networks, OT/IT convergence, and cybersecurity considerations for plant networks.
Network/Cybersecurity certifications - CompTIA Net+/Sec+/Pen+ or equivalent
Experience with licensed and unlicensed radio systems, DAS, Wi-Fi, or private LTE/5G deployments at industrial sites.
Understanding and practical application of NERC / CIP requirements for network architecture, access control, asset documentation, and cybersecurity compliance in utility or industrial environments.
EPC project support through design, construction, startup, and commissioning.
Familiarity with hazardous area classification as it applies to communication equipment installation.

Base Compensation: $100,000 - $145,000
