Sr Electrical Engineer - Digital Design
Job Description
As an Electrical Hardware Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and testing advanced hardware components and systems that support mission-critical applications. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, electrical engineers, and product managers, to bring cutting-edge products from concept through manufacturing. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented problem solver with extensive experience in hardware design, testing, and troubleshooting, who enjoys owning products end-to-end and working with equipment used in demanding environments.
Responsibilities
Design and develop hardware components, including PCBs, circuits, and complete systems, in accordance with project requirements, specifications, and industry standards.
Create detailed hardware architectures and schematics that support high-speed digital, analog, and mixed-signal designs.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of hardware with software, firmware, and other system components.
Develop proto@types for hardware components and systems, and conduct thorough testing to validate design concepts and performance.
Identify, analyze, and troubleshoot hardware-related issues, implementing robust solutions to ensure reliability and optimal performance.
Use design and simulation tools such as Altium, Cadence, and SPICE to model, verify, and refine hardware designs.
Perform signal integrity and digital signal processing-related analysis for high-speed interfaces and complex digital systems.
Maintain comprehensive documentation of hardware designs, test plans, procedures, and results to support traceability and future enhancements.
Work with documentation teams to create clear user manuals and technical documentation for hardware products.
Coordinate with Configuration Management to ensure all designs, revisions, and releases are properly controlled and documented.
Participate actively in design reviews, providing technical input to improve product quality, manufacturability, and maintainability.
Collaborate closely with software engineers, electrical engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure a cohesive and integrated approach to product development.
Ensure that hardware designs comply with relevant industry standards, military standards, safety regulations, and internal guidelines.
Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in hardware engineering to drive continuous improvement.
Support the full product lifecycle, from initial concept and design through prototyping, testing, and transition to manufacturing.
Essential Skills
Minimum of 10+ years of experience in hardware engineering, with a focus on design, development, and testing of complex hardware systems.
Proven experience in PCB design, including layout, routing, and design for manufacturability and test.
Strong knowledge of analog and digital circuit design, including high-speed digital design and mixed-signal systems.
Proficiency with hardware design and simulation tools such as Altium, Cadence, and SPICE.
Hands-on experience with hardware troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and performance optimization.
Experience collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams to integrate hardware with software and other system components.
Ability to work with and interpret industry standards and military standards in hardware design.
Strong documentation skills, including the ability to produce clear design documents, test procedures, and technical reports.
Capability to work on equipment and systems used in sensitive or high-security installations.
Ability to obtain and maintain appropriate clearances as required for the nature of the work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience designing with microprocessors, FPGAs, and other embedded systems components.
Experience in high-speed digital design, digital signal processing, and signal processing techniques.
Familiarity with communication interfaces such as I2C and SPI.
Experience with Xilinx FPGAs and related toolchains.
Proficiency with MATLAB and Simulink for modeling, simulation, and analysis of hardware and signal processing algorithms.
Experience using CAD tools, with Altium strongly preferred but openness to other platforms.
Leadership and mentorship experience, including guiding junior engineers and contributing to team technical growth.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field; a Master's degree is a plus.
Interest in seeing products through the full lifecycle from design to manufacturing and deployment.
Appreciation for working in a stable organization with a strong track record of recognition and awards.
Work Environment
This role is based 100% onsite due to the nature of the work and the @types of equipment and systems involved. You will work primarily in a cubicle-based office environment with direct access to manufacturing facilities in the same building, enabling close collaboration between design and production teams. The organization operates on a 9/80 schedule, providing every other Friday off to support work-life balance. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Melbourne, FL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $80.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
