Salary Range: $23.00 To $23.50 Hourly

About the Role

Sturges is seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Assistant to support our accounting team and front office. This role blends hands-on accounting work - accounts receivable, accounts payable, and month-end close support - with front-desk responsibilities, making it a great fit for someone who's organized, personable, and comfortable wearing multiple hats. You'll also serve as backup to the Staff Accountant during absences, gaining broad exposure across our accounting functions.

Schedule: Choice of two options: 37.50 hour work week

4-day week: Tuesday-Thursday, 7:00 AM-5:00 PM, and Friday, 6:30 AM-4:00 PM

5-day week: Monday-Thursday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM, and Friday, 8:00 AM-4:00 PM

What You'll Do

Accounting Support

Prepare customer invoices and export documentation, verifying accuracy and completeness

Ensure daily customer correspondence (invoices, export documents, certificates of compliance) is distributed on time, with accurate records maintained

Apply daily accounts receivable receipts and assist with collection activities on past-due accounts

Perform credit reference verifications for new customers per company procedures

Assist with reviewing, auditing, and entering accounts payable invoices

Process weekly AP payments and distribute weekly ACH remittance statements to vendors

Review and edit daily/weekly team member timecards for accuracy and completeness

Compile and prepare routine reports and summaries as requested

Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures, with flexibility to adjust schedules/time off as needed to meet deadlines

Front Office & Team Support

Perform receptionist duties: greeting visitors, answering/directing incoming calls, monitoring building door and security systems

Serve as backup to the Staff Accountant during absences (excluding payroll processing)

Maintain strict confidentiality and security of financial, customer, vendor, and other sensitive company information

What You Bring

Associate degree in Accounting or Finance required

1-3 years of relevant, hands-on accounting experience required

Ability to handle secured/sensitive information with strict confidentiality

Professional presentation and a customer-service mindset

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Proven ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Strong multi-tasking skills and comfort in a fast-paced environment

Fluent in reading, writing, and communicating in English
