Summary You will serve as an ELECTRICIAN at the Nuclear Regional Maintenance Department, PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF Detachment Guam. Responsibilities You will layout, connect and disconnect temporary electric power lines from dock power supply to ship's shore power terminals. You will lay out, make temporary installations, connect and disconnect Shipyard provided temporary lighting circuits and various blower, pump and other accessory electrical equipment circuits. You will install and remove temporary ventilation systems and address electrical Grade "A" pure water production and delivery issues. You will lay out, connect, maintain and disconnect electrical cables and power supplies. You will produce and deliver Pure Water. You will operate and perform maintenance on electrical equipment associated with the Shipyard drydocks and marine railways. You will use trade related tools to test volts, ohms, and safety of electrical components. Performs work indoors and outdoors exposing them to the prevailing weather conditions, noise, and intermittent slippery or uneven surfaces. Occasionally, work is performed in cramped areas, close confined spaces of ships and submarines with minimum light and ventilation. They are regularly exposed to moving objects, elevations, and sharp edges with the possibility of cuts and bruises, and to noise and vibration from machines. They are also exposed to the possibility of an electric shock when working on wet surfaces. Serious injury from slipping and falling may occur while working in the dry dock, uneven surfaces, and from ladders and staging. Dirt, grease, dampness, and chemical fumes are frequently encountered. Various protective devices such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, and hard hats are used. The incumbent may be assigned to work areas where certain potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present. These agents may include but are not limited to fumes, dust, noise, heat, ionizing and non- ionizing radiation, chemicals, etc. The shipyard maintains personnel protection programs consistent with applicable laws and regulations to ensure employee safety and health. These programs may include engineering controls, training, work procedures, use of personal protective equipment, and medical surveillance. As part of the medical surveillance programs, the incumbent may be required to take medical examinations.
