Job Title: Mechanical Engineer
Job Description
The Mechanical Engineer investigates and analyzes failed warranty parts and related vehicle issues to determine root causes and support quality improvements. This role combines hands-on work with technical analysis, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration to resolve product defects, support cost recovery efforts, and enhance overall product reliability.
Responsibilities
Analyze failed warranty parts and associated vehicle systems to understand failure modes and contributing factors.
Subject components and vehicles to controlled test conditions in laboratory and test shop environments to recreate failures and simulate possible causes and influences.
Identify product defects related to design, manufacturing processes, or sales and service practices, and initiate investigations to determine root causes.
Lead and participate in structured root cause analysis activities to develop clear, data-driven conclusions and corrective actions.
Prepare high-quality technical documentation, reports, and summaries that clearly communicate findings and recommendations to quality management.
Present analysis results and investigation outcomes to quality management and other stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
Communicate regularly with suppliers, design teams, and service teams to support problem investigation, share findings, and drive resolution.
Collaborate with responsible departments and suppliers to implement appropriate containment actions for identified issues.
Support cost recovery efforts and negotiations by examining warranty data and analysis records to substantiate claims and recommendations.
Perform hands-on work inside vehicles, including disassembly and reassembly of warranty parts and related components.
Work approximately half of the time in test lab and test shop environments while on-site, conducting experiments and validation tests.
Maintain accurate documentation of test procedures, observations, and results to ensure traceability and support audits.
Apply mechanical aptitude to safely and effectively disassemble, inspect, and reassemble components under investigation.
Contribute to continuous improvement of quality assurance processes by sharing insights from investigations and test activities.
Essential Skills
0-6 years of experience in mechanical engineering, quality engineering, or a closely related technical field, depending on education.
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, electronic engineering, electrical technology, mechanical engineering, or equivalent related work experience.
Strong mechanical aptitude, including the ability to disassemble and reassemble warranty parts and vehicle components accurately and safely.
Demonstrated ability to investigate technical problems and derive clear conclusions from observations and data.
Proficiency in root cause analysis methodologies and analytical problem-solving approaches.
Experience or knowledge in quality engineering and quality assurance practices.
Ability to prepare structured technical documentation, reports, and summaries for management and cross-functional teams.
Effective communication skills for interacting with suppliers, design teams, service teams, and quality management.
Ability to work hands-on inside vehicles and in test lab and test shop environments.
Attention to detail and strong observational skills when examining failed parts and test results.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Marysville, OH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $36.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
