Job Description
The Sr. Benefits Finance Analyst is responsible for the financial management, analysis, forecasting, and governance of the Company's U.S. health and welfare benefit programs. The role partners with external actuaries, consultants, benefit vendors, and internal Finance organizations to develop forecasts, evaluate financial performance, monitor funding requirements, and identify emerging cost drivers.
The incumbent translates complex healthcare, pharmacy, actuarial, vendor, and financial data into actionable business insights that support budgeting, strategic decision-making, and long-term benefits planning. The role is responsible for benefit-related financial reporting, vendor financial management, invoice governance, budget reconciliation, and supporting regulatory and audit requirements.
Through strong analytical capabilities, financial oversight, and continuous process improvement, the Benefits Finance Analyst enables informed decision-making and supports the financial sustainability of the Company's employee benefit programs. Pay ranging from $40-48/hr depending on experience and location.
Key Responsibilities:
Finance Partnership
Serve as the primary liaison between the Benefits organization and Corporate Finance teams, including FP&A, Accounting, Controllers, Treasury, and Shared Services.
Lead annual budget development, quarterly forecasting, and long-range planning activities for U.S. health and welfare benefit programs.
Support monthly and quarterly close activities, including accruals, forecasting updates, reserve analyses, and financial submissions.
Coordinate benefit-related financial reviews and ensure benefit program costs are accurately reflected within enterprise financial plans and forecasts.
Partner with Finance teams to strengthen reporting processes, financial governance, and internal controls.
Vendor and Actuarial Financial Management
Manage financial relationships with external actuarial firms, consultants, TPAs, stop-loss carriers, and benefit vendors to support forecasting, reserve development, funding requirements, and financial reporting.
Review actuarial valuations, reserve analyses, IBNR calculations, funding projections, stop-loss recoveries, and vendor financial guarantees to ensure financial accuracy and accountability.
Analyze vendor financial performance, contractual guarantees, and emerging cost trends to identify risks, opportunities, and cost-containment initiatives.
Support financial evaluations of vendor contracts, renewals, and pricing arrangements to optimize benefits program spend and mitigate financial risk.
Partner with internal stakeholders to provide financial analysis and recommendations regarding benefits funding strategies and vendor arrangements.
Financial Governance and Regulatory Compliance
Support benefits-related audits, regulatory filings, and financial reporting requirements, including Form 5500 financial schedules and supporting documentation.
Maintain appropriate documentation, controls, and audit trails supporting benefit funding, vendor payments, and financial reporting activities.
Assist with internal control compliance and financial governance activities related to employee benefit programs.
Ensure financial processes comply with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
Financial Oversight & Cost Management
Monitor costs of health and welfare benefit programs through PEPM development and validation, budget-to-actual tracking, cost center reconciliation, and other financial management methodologies.
Analyze monthly and quarterly financial results, identify key cost drivers and variances, and provide recommendations to management.
Lead financial reconciliation of benefit vendor invoices, funding files, and carrier billing across multiple benefit programs, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timely payment.
Partner with vendors, Payroll, HR, and Finance teams to resolve billing discrepancies and improve financial accuracy.
Monitor self-insured claims funding activity, evaluate large-claim financial impacts, and provide reporting and escalation regarding significant claim activity, funding requirements, and financial risk exposure.
Analyze enrollment, payroll deduction, and eligibility data to validate funding assumptions, reconcile financial activity, and identify discrepancies affecting benefit costs.
Prepare and present financial analyses, dashboards, reporting packages, and executive summaries for Benefits leadership, Finance, and other stakeholders.
Strategic Planning, Data Analytics, and Decision Support
Develop financial models evaluating healthcare, pharmacy, disability, and welfare program performance, cost trends, funding strategies, and benefit plan design changes.
Analyze healthcare utilization, pharmacy spend, actuarial projections, and vendor performance metrics to identify cost drivers and emerging financial risks.
Support long-term benefits strategy by modeling future cost scenarios and evaluating the financial impact of proposed program enhancements or design changes.
Produce executive-level reports, dashboards, presentations, and recommendations that support strategic planning and investment decisions.
Identify opportunities to improve cost management, forecasting accuracy, financial reporting, and overall program sustainability.
Support ad hoc financial analysis and strategic initiatives as requested by Benefits and Finance leadership.

Skills and Requirements
4-5+ years of progressive experience in benefits finance, healthcare finance, actuarial consulting, compensation and benefits, financial planning and analysis, or a related field.
Experience supporting employee benefit budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, or actuarial analysis.
Experience analyzing healthcare, pharmacy, disability, or welfare plan financial data.
Advanced analytical and financial modeling skills.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, lookups, Power Query, financial modeling, reconciliation, and large-data analysis.
Working knowledge of employee benefits regulations, including ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, and Form 5500 reporting requirements.
Strong presentation and communication skills with the ability to translate complex financial information into actionable business insights.
Proven ability to influence decision-making and effectively partner with senior leaders, Finance, vendors, consultants, and cross-functional stakeholders. - Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, etc
Strong understanding of self-insured health plans, healthcare funding methodologies and, reserve concepts preferred.
Experience working with HRIS, payroll, benefits administration systems, and financial reporting tools preferred.
