Checks must consist of physical verification; staff must see a visible body part, or chest rising (breathing) if the resident is fully covered by bedding materials.
Provide individualized bed check times and staff positioning based on documented/communicated resident at-risk precautions/protocols.
Documentation of residents' bed checks must occur in real-time. Bed check documentation must occur after the bed check is completed and bed checks can never, under any circumstance, be documented ahead of time, before any bed check is to occur.
Ensure the facility is secure; all exterior doors, windows, and office doors as applicable are locked and secured.
