Responsibilities The Western District of Texas is currently seeking an experienced attorney to fill an Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) position in the Asset Recovery Division/Financial Litigation Unit in the San Antonio office. The FLU oversees the collection of criminal and civil debts owed to victims of federal crime and to the United States. FLU AUSAs conduct asset investigations, pursue garnishments, foreclose real property, obtain turnover orders, and seek to unwind fraudulent transfers of assets. The assigned AUSA will work closely with their counterparts in the Criminal and Civil Divisions, pre-judgment and post-judgment, to maximize financial recoveries for victims and the government. FLU AUSAs represent the interests of the United States in federal district and appellate courts, performing vital public service while managing a high-volume docket, researching case law, drafting complex briefs, investigating factually and legally intricate matters, and arguing district court matters and appeals. This role offers an exceptional level of responsibility, providing opportunities to handle significant litigation and meaningfully contribute to the mission of the Department of Justice. Experience in bankruptcy, receiverships, forensic accounting, real estate transactions, resolving property exemptions claimed under state or federal law, and civil litigation preferred. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Residency Requirements: Assistant United States Attorneys generally must reside in the district to which he or she is appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See www.sss.gov. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 1 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience. United States citizenship is required. Preferred Qualifications: Hiring preferences include strong academics, outstanding organizational skills, superior legal writing and research ability, demonstrated analytical ability, good judgment and courtroom skills, and a commitment to professionalism, ethics, civility, and public service. You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement. Education Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree. Additional Information Salary Information: Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $77,876 to $197,100 which includes 18.78% locality pay. As needed, additional positions may be filled using this announcement.
