Bank of America is looking for an Experience Design Executive to lead a multi-disciplinary organization responsible for shaping and delivering enterprise-scale experiences that drive business growth, customer value, operational effectiveness, and long-term competitive advantage. This executive will serve as a strategic partner to senior leaders, influencing investment decisions, organizational priorities, and the future direction of digital experiences across multiple business critical portfolios of work. Operating as a member of the Experience Design senior leadership team, the role is accountable for building high-performing leaders and teams, advancing design maturity, driving AI-enabled transformation, and establishing the operating models, systems, and governance mechanisms that scale excellence. The Experience Design Executive will champion a culture of accountability, innovation, inclusivity, strong craft, measurable key results, and continuous improvement while ensuring experiences are delivered with exceptional quality, business impact, and operational rigor in a highly regulated environment.
As an Experience Design Executive, you will:
Hold yourself and your leadership team to the highest standards of quality and professionalism, delivering all roadmap projects on-time and on-budget, with a deep focus on craft and a bias for action.
Represent Experience Design as a strategic business capability, influencing enterprise direction and strengthening the organization's ability to compete through exceptional best-in-class digital experiences.
Shape enterprise experience strategy across multiple portfolios, products, platforms, and customer journeys, ensuring experience investments directly support business growth, customer loyalty, operational efficiency, and risk-managed innovation.
Lead and develop a high-performing interdisciplinary organization, cultivating a deep leadership bench and a culture of accountability, coaching, and continuous growth.
Partner with executive leaders across Product, Technology, Marketing, Operations, Risk, Compliance and Lines of Business to influence strategic decisions and align investment priorities.
Digest, communicate, and guide alignment to the latest Experience Design strategic vision, priorities, OKRs, and principles while monitoring progress and identifying opportunities to increase effectiveness.
Partner with Experience Design senior leadership peers to shape and drive XD-wide decisions, align on strategic priorities, and advance shared frameworks, standards, and ways of working that foster a one-team culture.
Define how the organization identifies, frames, prioritizes and solves complex customer, associate, and business problems through human-centered, data-informed, and systems-based approaches.
Establish experience quality standards, decision frameworks, and review mechanisms that consistently raise the bar across portfolios, channels, and teams.
Champion AI-enabled design transformation by integrating emerging technologies, automation, and intelligent experiences into products, workflows, and organizational practices.
Translate enterprise strategy into cohesive experience visions, roadmaps, and measurable outcomes that connect customer needs with business objectives.
Drive alignment across product ecosystems by identifying shared opportunities, reducing fragmentation and creating scalable experience solutions that accelerate delivery.
Serve as a trusted executive advisor, bringing clarity to ambiguity, synthesizing complex challenges and influencing decisions through compelling narratives, evidence, and strategic thinking.
Build strong partnerships with Marketing and Brand leaders to ensure cohesive, differentiated, and meaningful experiences across channels and customer touchpoints.
Maintain a strong maker mindset by staying connected to craft, actively reviewing work, challenging assumptions, and raising the quality bar through hands-on leadership when needed.
Evaluate and benchmark product and service experiences, synthesizing user research, data, and digital patterns to identify opportunities and inspire innovative customer, associate, and business experiences across the customer journey.
Lead workforce strategy, organizational planning, and capacity management across multiple portfolios to ensure resources are aligned to strategic priorities.
Drive operational excellence through effective portfolio governance, prioritization, dependency management, delivery oversight, and continuous improvement.
Champion inclusive, accessible, and trustworthy experiences that meet the expectations of a highly regulated environment while delivering innovative customer value.
Model and set the standard for visual storytelling, executive communication, and presentation excellence. Craft and deliver compelling narratives that translate complex ideas into clear, persuasive presentations, and thought leadership content, influencing decisions, driving alignment, and inspiring action across teams, senior leaders, and enterprise stakeholders.
Required Qualifications:
15+ years of experience leading product, experience, or design organizations responsible for large-scale customer-facing digital products and services.
10+ years of leading and inspiring people to achieve their maximum potential. Proven experience leading large, geographically distributed, multidisciplinary teams through multiple layers of leadership while fostering engagement, accountability, and performance.
An outstanding portfolio demonstrating excellence in experience design, end-to-end multidisciplinary product design, and a strong track record of shipping, scaling, and sustaining customer-facing digital products and experiences in partnership with cross-functional product, marketing, design, legal, risk, and engineering teams.
Proven ability to shape business strategy and influence executive decision making through customer insight, experience expertise, and strategic problem framing.
Deep expertise translating complex business, customer, and technology challenges into scalable experience strategies and measurable outcomes.
Strong executive presence with demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders, align competing priorities, and drive enterprise-wide outcomes.
Experience establishing governance models, prioritization frameworks, investment strategies, and organizational mechanisms that scale quality and effectiveness.
Demonstrated ability to lead AI-enabled transformation, including the application of emerging technologies to customer experiences, design workflows, and organizational capabilities.
Exceptional people leadership capabilities including coaching, performance development, talent assessment, organizational design, and leadership development.
Expert understanding of human-centered design methodologies, product strategy, customer experience, service design, systems thinking, and rapid ideation processes such as Lean UX, Design Sprints, and Agile.
Experience operating successfully within large, complex, and highly regulated environments while balancing innovation, governance, and speed.
Hands-on experience leading organizational change, managing ambiguity, driving strategic communications, and executing complex initiatives with the ability to adapt quickly, demonstrate resilience, and lead positively through change.
Strong operational leadership capabilities including portfolio management, workforce planning, capacity optimization, and organizational planning.
Exceptional communication, storytelling, listening, and facilitation skills with the ability to influence audiences ranging from delivery teams to executive leadership.
Demonstrated ability to create clarity within ambiguity and guide organizations through transformation, change and periods of significant growth.
Documented history of delivering measurable business outcomes through customer-centered product and experience strategies.
Deep understanding of modern experience design practices across web, mobile app, conversational, AI-driven, and emerging interaction models.
Strong financial and business acumen, including experience evaluating tradeoffs, investment opportunities, operating efficiency, and return on experience investments.
Highly proficient with modern design, design systems, AI-enabled creation, and design-to-code platforms, including tools such as Figma, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, and emerging industry solutions.
Highest level of integrity and management of confidential information.
Demonstrated ability to build trusted partnerships with executive stakeholders, influence across organization levels, and align diverse constituencies toward shared business and customer outcomes.
Desired Qualifications:
Financial or similar industry experience preferred.
Master's degree in design or bachelor's with corresponding experience.
