Data Science & Advanced Analytics Lead
As a member of the SPI - Digital and Computational Sciences leadership team, you guide teams that advance scientific research, discovery, and the development of innovative, cost-effective seed production solutions for Bayer's Row Crop and Vegetable businesses; you lead a globally distributed team of approximately 30 data scientists and around 30 contractors and serve as a strategic member of the SPI - Digital leadership team, helping to shape and execute the SPI strategy that supports Bayer's global product supply organization; you are primarily based in St. Louis, MO, and you play a pivotal role in connecting digital and computational capabilities with product supply needs to drive sustainable growth, profitability, reliability, and quality across the portfolio.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Place a high priority on building a high-performing, inclusive team and talent pipeline by selecting, attracting, developing, and leading diverse talent;
Ensure effective allocation of resources through thorough capacity planning and prioritization across global initiatives;
Provide input into the technical strategy for computational methodology discovery and advanced development opportunities across data engineering, decision science, data analytics, statistics, and experimental design;
Oversee approximately 30 full-time employees and 30 contractors accountable for computational sciences capabilities and ensure their work is aligned with strategic objectives;
Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring to team members to build capabilities, support career growth, and foster a culture of continuous learning;
Create a culture of trust that embodies DSO principles of empowerment, ownership, and accountability and ensure strong connection and collaboration with other capability hubs and centers within Bayer;
Identify and engage with key external communities to keep both the talent pipeline and innovation pipeline current and competitive;
Collaborate with stakeholders to define and drive the vision for workstreams enabled by your team, ensuring alignment with broader SPI and product supply strategies;
Represent SPI on cross-functional strategic teams to develop growth opportunities in emerging markets and to define tactical direction for identifying, developing, and deploying technical solutions that support Bayer's global product supply processes;
Manage the review and reporting of your team's performance against 90-day business objectives and take action to ensure delivery;
Ensure computational tools are designed, developed, and implemented on time, meet technical standards, and fulfill internal customer expectations;
WHO YOU ARE
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required Qualifications:
Ph.D. with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or M.S. with a minimum of 12 years, or B.S. with a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in Seed or Plant Physiology, Row Crops, Vegetable crops, or a related field;
Proven ability to operate as a visionary, architect, catalyst, and coach in a complex, global organization;
Demonstrated track record of people leadership, coaching, and talent development, including building and leading high-performing, diverse teams;
Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire, influence, and build trust in a highly matrixed, agile environment;
A flexible mindset, comfortable navigating organizational change, ambiguity, and evolving priorities;
Strong understanding of business priorities and the ability to connect individual employee capabilities to company goals and strategic outcomes;
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience leading globally distributed teams of data and computational science professionals (for example, data engineering, decision science, analytics, statistics, and design of experiments);
Proven success collaborating across Product Supply, Research and Development, and Commercial organizations to deliver impactful technical solutions;
Demonstrated ability to engage with external scientific and professional communities to strengthen innovation and talent pipelines;
Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with experience presenting to senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $144,000-$215,000.Additional compensation may include a bonus or incentive compensation (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant's location, market data/ranges, an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
