Job Description
This role focuses on performing high-quality painting on aircraft in a hangar environment at Melbourne Airport. The position requires extensive experience in painting corporate jets or automotive surfaces, precise adherence to FAA paint weight requirements, and a strong commitment to detail and finish quality. You will use professional spray equipment and industrial painting techniques to ensure that aircraft meet strict aesthetic and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
Prepare aircraft surfaces for painting by performing tasks such as sanding, deburring, buffing, and general paint prep to ensure proper adhesion and a smooth finish.
Apply primers, epoxies, topcoats, and other coatings to aircraft using HVLP spray guns, cup spray guns, and other spray painting equipment in accordance with technical specifications and FAA guidelines.
Perform detailed masking, taping, and layout work to achieve precise paint lines, logos, and design schemes on corporate jets.
Inspect surfaces before, during, and after painting to verify quality, identify defects, and ensure compliance with paint weight requirements and aviation standards.
Use industrial paint booths and blasting or sandblasting equipment as needed to prepare and finish aircraft components.
Carry out touch-up work, body repair, and finishing tasks to correct imperfections and achieve a high-quality final appearance.
Maintain painting tools, spray guns, and equipment in clean, safe, and working condition, following all safety and maintenance procedures.
Follow established processes, work instructions, and safety protocols for working in an aerospace and hangar environment.
Collaborate with other technicians and team members to meet production schedules and support ongoing aircraft projects.
Adapt to rotating shifts and varying work assignments while maintaining high attention to detail and consistent workmanship.
Essential Skills
At least 5 years of painting experience on corporate jets and/or automotive applications.
Proven experience using HVLP spray guns and cup spray guns for industrial or aviation painting.
Strong knowledge of paint weight requirements and the ability to work in compliance with FAA standards.
High attention to detail in surface preparation, paint application, and final inspection.
Hands-on experience with aircraft or aviation painting, including prep, sanding, and finishing.
Ability to perform tasks such as sanding, deburring, buffing, blasting, and paint prep in an industrial or aerospace setting.
Experience working in paint booths and with industrial painting processes.
Flexibility with shift availability, including working 1st and 2nd shifts Monday through Saturday.
Capability to perform inspection of painted surfaces and identify defects or nonconformities.
Strong commitment to safety and adherence to established procedures in a hangar or industrial environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Background in auto body repair or refinishing, including body repair and finishing work.
Experience in aerospace, aviation, or industrial painting environments.
Familiarity with epoxy coatings and other specialized aviation or industrial paint systems.
Experience with sandblasting or blasting equipment for surface preparation.
Ability to work effectively in a team setting and support multiple aircraft projects.
Willingness to rotate between 1st and 2nd shifts during initial periods based on skill level and operational needs.

Work Environment
You will work in a hangar environment at Melbourne Airport (MLB), supporting aircraft painting operations in an active aviation setting. The facility includes paint booths and industrial painting equipment, including HVLP and cup spray guns, blasting and sandblasting tools, and specialized aviation prep and finishing tools. The schedule operates on 1st and 2nd shifts Monday through Saturday, with one weekday and one weekend day off. During the initial period, shifts rotate every 90 days for the first two rotations to determine final placement on 1st or 2nd shift based on skill level. The environment is industrial and safety-focused, requiring adherence to all safety procedures, use of appropriate personal protective equipment, and compliance with hangar and airport regulations.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $58240.00 - $70000.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
