Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer - Cable Assembly
Job Description
This hands-on Manufacturing Engineer role supports a cable assembly manufacturing environment by ensuring equipment reliability, supporting daily production, and leading continuous improvement initiatives. The engineer works primarily on the manufacturing floor, troubleshooting electrical and mechanical equipment, resolving production issues in real time, and implementing lean manufacturing practices to improve quality, efficiency, and throughput. This position offers broad technical exposure, visible impact on operations, and the opportunity to help shape processes and standard work in a growing organization.
Responsibilities
Support daily manufacturing operations on the production floor to ensure production goals are consistently achieved.
Serve as a primary technical resource for production personnel and operators, providing real-time guidance and problem resolution.
Monitor manufacturing processes, identify bottlenecks or inefficiencies, and recommend improvements to enhance throughput and quality.
Respond promptly to equipment and process issues impacting production and drive timely resolution.
Inspect manufacturing equipment prior to production startup to verify readiness and safe operation.
Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical equipment issues, including cable assembly and related production machinery.
Diagnose root causes of machine downtime and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
Support and improve equipment uptime to maximize overall production efficiency.
Perform daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance activities on production equipment to sustain reliability.
Coordinate with equipment vendors and suppliers when additional technical support or parts are required.
Lead and support Lean Manufacturing initiatives focused on improving flow, reducing waste, and enhancing productivity.
Implement and sustain 5S programs to maintain an organized, efficient, and safe manufacturing environment.
Drive process improvement projects aimed at improving quality, efficiency, and reducing scrap and rework.
Support and promote Single Piece Flow and continuous flow production methods within cable assembly operations.
Assist in standardizing manufacturing processes, work instructions, and best practices across the production floor.
Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and manufacturing documentation to support production and process changes.
Utilize AutoCAD and SolidWorks to support manufacturing activities, including layouts, fixtures, and tooling designs.
Assist with the design, improvement, and implementation of manufacturing fixtures and tooling to enhance ergonomics and repeatability.
Support automation initiatives and the implementation of future manufacturing technologies, including exposure to 3D printing.
Collaborate closely with engineering, operations, and production teams to align process improvements with business goals.
Take ownership of equipment uptime and production support, making immediate operational improvements where possible.
Contribute to building processes and standard work as the company grows, influencing how the engineering team operates.
Participate in continuous improvement projects related to cable assemblies, high-power cable products, and electronics manufacturing.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Somerset, NJ.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $40.86 - $43.27/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
