This position is part of the Agency Administrative Services, Government Publishing Office in Washington, District of Columbia. Responsibilities Receives, sorts, and files GPO records using established systems; ensures correct storage and labeling. Assists with preparing records for National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) transfer following standard guidelines. Assists staff by demonstrating proper filing and records management techniques. Conducts inventory of records storage areas and reports discrepancies if necessary. Retrieves, retains, scans, and tracks records for disposition. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To qualify for the Records Program Technician, PG -0305-6, you must meet the following requirements: Records Program Technician, PG-0305-06, one year of specialized experience equivalent to the PG-05 grade level in the Federal Service related to the work of the position. Must meet the specialized experience that includes: 1) Applying laws governing records management to ensure records are accurately maintained or disposed of according to guidelines, 2) Using various computer software, including Microsoft Office Suite products (Excel and Word), databases, and automated systems, and 3) Indexing, filing, and locating records. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Only experience obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement (09/08/2026) to be considered. Education Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level. In addition, Section 2302(b)(7) of Title 5, U.S. Code, makes it a "prohibited personnel practice" for a person in authority to "appoint, employ, promote, advance, or advocate for the appointment, employment, promotion, or advancement of a relative." Background Investigation: For a Suitability: To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy; this position requires a background investigation for Suitability. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully complete a background check for Suitability. This review could include fingerprints and credit checks, as well as a full field FBI background investigation and tax and bar checks for attorney applicants. The background investigation covers a period of seven to ten years depending on the nature of the position; this process may take 6 weeks or longer. The Agency may rescind the tentative offer, if the candidate is unable to pass the background investigation. Schedule A (Disability Appointment): Documentation of eligibility for employment under Schedule A can be obtained from a licensed medical professional (e.g., a physician or other medical professional certified by a state, the District of Columbia, or a U.S. territory to practice medicine); a licensed vocational rehabilitation specialist (i.e., state or private); or any Federal agency, state agency, or agency of the District of Columbia or a U.S. territory that issues or provides disability benefits.
