This entry-level Distribution Engineer role offers the opportunity to work on large-scale utility and infrastructure projects while supporting the growth of a Distribution Infrastructure Support team in an office-based environment. You will function in an engineering capacity under close supervision, applying fundamental electrical engineering principles to distribution system design and related project work. This position is ideal for recent graduates or engineers with 0-1 years of experience who are eager to learn, collaborate with industry experts, and help shape the future of energy.
Responsibilities
Perform routine engineering assignments under close supervision, applying basic electrical engineering principles to distribution system design and related tasks.
Contribute to the preparation of engineering deliverables such as drawings, reports, specifications, and studies of limited scope.
Conduct routine research and develop recommendations for equipment and materials selection for power distribution and utility projects.
Collect, assimilate, and manage data required to support engineering analyses and project work.
Prepare basic engineering calculations using standard methods and principles commonly applied in electrical and distribution engineering.
Develop familiarity with departmental design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes, and internal policies and procedures, and apply them to daily work.
Understand and comply with the organization's quality program, supporting continuous improvement and change management initiatives.
Adhere to project budget, schedule, and quality requirements while completing assigned tasks.
Share relevant information with project team members as requested and coordinate activities with others when directed by project leadership.
Support internal clients, such as project team leaders, by focusing on their needs and beginning to understand external clients' key interests and drivers.
Provide support to business development or pursuit activities as needed.
Travel up to approximately 25% of the time to support project and job functions, as required.
Essential Skills
0-1 years of experience in electrical engineering, preferably with exposure to power distribution or utility-related work.
Basic knowledge of electrical distribution system design and power delivery concepts.
Ability to apply fundamental electrical engineering principles to standard techniques and procedures.
Capability to prepare basic engineering calculations following established methods and practices.
Competence in reading and interpreting engineering standards, design guides, and applicable engineering codes.
Attention to detail in collecting, organizing, and managing technical data for engineering tasks.
Ability to contribute to the preparation of engineering drawings, reports, specifications, and limited-scope studies.
Willingness to comply with quality programs and support continuous improvement efforts.
Capacity to work effectively under close supervision and follow direction from project leadership.
Willingness and ability to travel up to approximately 25% to support job responsibilities.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Any experience related to electrical distribution work, utility design, or power and utilities projects is highly preferred.
Familiarity with electrical design, drafting, and distribution engineering practices.
Interest in power distribution, power delivery, and electrical infrastructure projects.
Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and communicate clearly with internal stakeholders.
Motivation to grow professionally and build expertise in distribution engineering and power & utilities.
Work Environment
This role is based in an office environment in Ann Arbor, with an expectation to work on-site five days per week to build relationships, learn the business, and collaborate closely with the Distribution Infrastructure Support team. You will work with engineering design tools and documentation related to electrical distribution, power delivery, and utility projects, and you may travel up to approximately 25% of the time to support project needs. The work setting emphasizes collaboration with industry experts, adherence to quality standards, and professional development within the energy and infrastructure sector.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ann Arbor, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $31.25 - $31.25/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
