This Mechanical Engineer role focuses on designing and developing highly customizable electro-mechanical equipment and load banks, from initial requirements through release to manufacturing and startup support. You will collaborate closely with Sales, Electrical Engineering, Drafting, Assembly, Procurement, Test, and field technicians to configure solutions, create detailed designs and drawings, and ensure projects are cost-effective, manufacturable, and delivered on schedule. This position offers the opportunity to act as a technical lead on complex, long-tenure projects within a growing engineering team that supports a new, high-demand product line.
Responsibilities
Review and evaluate sales order requirements and specifications to configure and develop mechanical solutions that meet customer needs.
Work directly with Sales and, when needed, customers to clarify and resolve technical requirements and application details.
Collaborate with Electrical Engineers and Drafting to produce accurate customer drawings and complete design documentation.
Act as the technical lead on assigned projects, guiding design decisions and ensuring technical integrity throughout the project lifecycle.
Work closely with internal groups such as Assembly, Procurement, and field technicians during startup to resolve technical and design-related issues.
Coordinate with Sales and Applications Engineering to align product capabilities with customer requirements and project objectives.
Approve project releases to Manufacturing, ensuring designs are complete, accurate, and ready for production.
Partner with Assembly and Test departments to troubleshoot and resolve issues encountered during build and test activities.
Work as part of a project team to deliver cost-effective, manufacturable designs for electro-mechanical equipment and load banks.
Manage and maintain bills of materials (BOMs) to support accurate manufacturing, procurement, and configuration control.
Apply project management practices to plan, organize, and track design activities and deliverables.
Provide regular updates on project status and timelines to stakeholders, highlighting risks, progress, and key milestones.
Contribute to new product development efforts by applying mechanical design, 3D modeling, and CAD expertise to create innovative solutions.
Support OEM design activities, ensuring designs meet performance, reliability, and manufacturability targets.
Participate in continuous improvement efforts related to design processes, documentation, and product performance.
Essential Skills
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
At least 5 years of experience in designing and developing electro-mechanical equipment.
Experience in the development, design, and engineering of mechanical and electrical systems using both 2D and 3D CAD software, with SolidWorks preferred.
Strong mechanical design skills, including machine design for complex equipment.
Hands-on experience creating, managing, and maintaining bills of materials (BOMs).
Demonstrated project management experience, including planning, tracking, and delivering engineering projects.
Proficiency in 3D modeling and CAD tools for mechanical design.
Experience with OEM design activities, including customization and integration of equipment.
Ability to work cross-functionally with Sales, Electrical Engineering, Drafting, Assembly, Procurement, Test, and field technicians.
Strong communication skills for collaborating with internal teams and interacting with customers on technical requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) systems for managing design files and engineering documentation.
Background in designing sheet metal products and enclosures.
Experience with electrical testing related to electro-mechanical equipment.
Customer-facing experience in an engineering or technical support capacity.
Experience with highly customizable load banks or similar electro-mechanical systems.
Ability to contribute to new product development in a growing engineering organization.
Comfort working on long-tenure projects, typically ranging from 6 months to 2 years.
Collaborative mindset and ability to thrive in a team of 10 or more engineers.
Work Environment
The role is based in an office environment that is directly attached to a manufacturing floor, providing close access to production and testing activities. Approximately 70% of the workday is spent at a desk performing design, modeling, documentation, and project coordination tasks, while about 30% is spent on the manufacturing floor supporting assembly, test, and startup activities. You will work as part of an engineering team of more than 10 engineers in a growing organization with a new, high-demand product line and long-duration, highly customizable projects.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Seven Hills, OH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $48.00 - $60.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
