Job Description
This Accountant role focuses on preparing, analyzing, and improving financial reporting and accounting processes within a corporate environment. The position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting audits and compliance, contributing to budgeting and forecasting, and partnering with global finance teams and external stakeholders to provide clear, actionable financial insights. The role also involves enhancing accounting systems and procedures, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and mentoring junior finance staff.
Responsibilities
Prepare, maintain, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, reasonableness, and conformance with reporting and procedural standards.
Perform reconciliations of financial accounts, identify discrepancies, and resolve issues to maintain accurate and reliable financial data.
Coordinate internal and external audits and ensure compliance with applicable auditing requirements and organizational policies.
Collaborate with global finance team members to complete financial tasks and projects accurately and on time, while effectively scheduling and managing workload to meet deadlines.
Provide coverage for Outside United States (OUS) accounting processes as needed, ensuring continuity and accuracy of global financial operations.
Participate in the development and analysis of budgets, and prepare periodic reports that compare budgeted costs to actual results.
Translate complex financial data from raw numbers into clear, meaningful narratives that external stakeholders can understand and use for continuous improvement.
Analyze business operations, trends, costs, financial commitments, and obligations to project future revenues and expenses and provide informed recommendations.
Maintain accounting systems and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and identify opportunities for improvement to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Implement new or revised procedures and processes to strengthen financial controls, improve reporting quality, and support continuous improvement efforts.
Communicate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders, providing timely financial information, explanations, and support as needed.
Train and mentor junior finance staff, sharing knowledge of accounting principles, systems, and best practices to support their professional development.
Essential Skills
Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices, including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
Advanced proficiency in accounting software and MS Excel for financial analysis, reporting, and data management.
Excellent analytical skills with a keen attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy.
Demonstrated continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to identify and implement process enhancements.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and consistently meet deadlines.
Ability to adapt to changing priorities and handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
IFS Cloud experience strongly preferred.
FastAP experience strongly preferred.
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
Relevant professional certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA).
Typically 5+ years of experience in accounting, finance, or a related field, preferably in a corporate setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working in a corporate finance or accounting environment with exposure to global operations.
Proven ability to interpret and present financial information to non-financial stakeholders in a clear and compelling manner.
Experience developing, documenting, and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for accounting processes.

Work Environment
The role operates in a professional corporate finance environment that relies heavily on modern accounting systems, including IFS Cloud and FastAP, as well as advanced use of MS Excel and other financial software tools. Work typically follows standard business hours, with expectations to manage deadlines and support global finance activities, which may occasionally require flexibility. The environment emphasizes collaboration with cross-functional teams and global stakeholders, adherence to established Standard Operating Procedures, and a strong focus on accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement in financial processes. Professional business attire is generally expected in this setting.

This is a Contract position based out of Portland, ME.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
