Job Title: Telehealth Oncology Registered Nurse
Job Description
This role provides telehealth counseling and education to oncology patients on specialty drug therapies through inbound and outbound phone calls. The nurse supports patients in understanding their treatment, managing side effects, and maintaining adherence to therapy, while ensuring full compliance with contracted and accrediting regulations. There is no direct patient care or home visits, and all interactions and clinical activities are thoroughly documented in an electronic medical record (EMR) system in accordance with industry standards.
Responsibilities
Counsel and educate new and existing oncology patients on specialty drug therapies via telephone, including both inbound and outbound calls.
Explain treatment plans and medication regimens to patients to support understanding, adherence, and ongoing engagement with therapy.
Discuss potential and current side effects with patients, educate them on treatment alternatives, and facilitate strategies to maintain therapy adherence.
Identify, assess, and appropriately triage patient concerns related to oncology and hematology care in a telehealth setting.
Identify and report adverse events (AEs) and product complaints (PCs) to the manufacturer, the FDA, and other governing authorities in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Adhere to all contracted and accrediting regulations as indicated by drug specifications and applicable standards.
Complete thorough, accurate, and timely documentation in the EMR using good documentation practices and complying with industry standards and regulations.
Utilize strong computer skills to manage email, word processing, spreadsheets, and web-based programs to support patient care and documentation.
Apply effective oral and written communication skills, including motivational interviewing techniques, to engage patients and support behavioral change.
Read, analyze, and interpret practice standards, professional journals, technical procedures, and government standards and regulations to inform patient care and compliance.
Collaborate with internal clinical and administrative teams to support patient access and continuity of care within a large healthcare environment.
Essential Skills
Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license with multi-state compact state eligibility (including North Carolina).
Minimum of 3 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year of acute, inpatient care experience preferred.
Experience in oncology and/or hematology nursing, preferably with direct patient education responsibilities.
Demonstrated telehealth and triage experience, with the ability to assess patient needs remotely.
Strong patient education skills, particularly related to specialty drug therapies and side-effect management.
Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems and adherence to good documentation practices.
Strong computer skills, including email, word processing, spreadsheet, and web-based applications.
Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to explain complex clinical information clearly.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret practice standards, professional journals, technical procedures, and government standards and regulations.
Ability to work within utilization management frameworks and adhere to accrediting and regulatory requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Oncology and/or hematology experience preferred, particularly in patient counseling and education.
Experience with motivational interviewing techniques to support patient engagement and adherence.
Work in acute care, triage, or inpatient nursing settings.
Comfort working in a telehealth environment and managing both inbound and outbound patient calls.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in clinical documentation and reporting of adverse events and product complaints.
Ability to collaborate effectively within a large healthcare organization focused on patient care and access.
Work Environment
This position is based in an onsite clinical office setting with a structured schedule of Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. There is an occasional Saturday requirement on a quarterly rotation, which is performed remotely. The role is fully telehealth-focused, with no direct patient care or home visits, and daily work involves extensive use of telephones, computers, EMR systems, and web-based applications. The environment emphasizes regulatory compliance, accurate documentation, and collaboration within a large healthcare organization dedicated to patient care and access.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cary, NC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $41.00 - $41.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
