This position will be filled at either the Diagnostics Technician 2/3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
The Mechanical Design Engineering Group in Accelerator Operations and Technology Division (AOT-MDE) is made up of mechanical engineers, designers, technicians, and administrative staff whose mission is to provide mechanical engineering support to a wide variety of accelerator technology related challenges in the service of the laboratory's national security mission. AOT-MDE's primary responsibility is the operation and maintenance of the LANSCE Accelerator Facility's mechanical systems.
This position involves supporting LANSCE 24-hours, 7-days per week beam operation, which will involve work at odd hours (when required) and on-call duties. The successful candidate must be willing to work overtime occasionally and serve on-call to support 24/7 accelerator operation and maintenance.
Engineered Systems Technician 2 $54,900 - $84,300
The Vacuum Systems Team is one of the four mechanical systems responsible for maintaining the high vacuum (10-7-10-8 Torr) needed in the LANSCE accelerator. The pumping systems used are primarily turbo, ion and cryogenic.
We are seeking a highly self-motivated and mechanically inclined Engineered Systems Technician to be a member of the Vacuum Systems Team. The successful candidate will troubleshoot, maintain, repair and rebuild as necessary all vacuum systems, including pumps, piping, valving and instrumentation, to support accelerator operations and a variety of other accelerator related projects. They will need to demonstrate the ability of following instructions closely and calling supervisor or senior technician when in doubt; working closely with personnel from within and outside the team and a group; interacting and communicating effectively with others; staying highly focused and productive for a long period of time; prioritizing safety of self and others; working independently and as part of the team under both general and/or specific instructions.
Engineered Systems Technician 3 $66,100-$103,600

Experience with vacuum systems and their maintenance.
Demonstrated experience using vacuum test equipment.
Applied knowledge of principles of vacuum technology.
Experience with the standard machining operation such as turning, milling, drilling and grinding and hand tools.

Experience in electro/mechanical assembly, mechanical fabrication, and maintenance of vacuum equipment.
Demonstrated experience using electrical test equipment such as multi-meters, and AC/DC power supplies.
Applied knowledge of vacuum technology and principles of vacuum practice for particle accelerators or other large facilities.
Demonstrated skills in developing, building, operating, maintaining, leak-checking and troubleshooting vacuum and other mechanical/electrical systems.
Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a high school diploma and a minimum of three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Education/Experience at higher level : Position require an Associates' Degree in a related field and a minimum of 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
Additional skills that would be considered beneficial to a candidate but not required are listed below:
Experience working with intricate and detailed mechanical, pneumatic and electronic assemblies.
Experience in the maintenance and repair of cryogenic pumping equipment.
Design, fabrication and/or maintenance of accelerator equipment.
Knowledge and experience working on an accelerator facility or on similar technology.
Possess or have the ability to acquire a Q level clearance.
Work Environment:
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level).
