Summary This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Asheville VA Medical Center (VAMC), assigned to the Prosthetics & Sensory Services. The incumbent will serve as the first point of contact for customers, both internal and external, that require prosthetics services either face-to-face (counter) or by telephone. Responsibilities Duties include, but may not be limited to the following: Serve as the first point of contact for customers, both internal and external, that require prosthetic services either face-to-face (counter) or by telephone. Dispense off the shelf inventory items to patients and post the items to the patients' 2319 transaction record screen. Verify eligibility through the prosthetic package before issuing the equipment to the patient (i.e. ensuring a consult for medical equipment has been submitted to the service and proper disability codes are entered into the veterans Prosthetics record). Deliver property to departments when received in PSAS and notate the patient records of the status of the device. Notify Inventory Managers of items with low amounts prior to running out of items on the shelves. Mail out stock room orders as required. (i.e. Process consults for medical devices to be mailed from VA inventory to veterans' homes to include, picking, packaging, labeling, providing to mail room and posting to the veteran's medical record). Answers the telephone and takes complete messages. Determines nature of requests and directs callers to appropriate staff, or personally provides the information desired when routine or procedural matters of the office are involved. Receives, opens, reviews, and distributes by function all incoming property from Logistics/Supply Chain Management Warehouse staff. Determines if the property should be brought to the immediate attention of the supervisor, what should be given to other members of the staff and what needs to be delivered. Follows up on pending orders utilizing the Prosthetics Vista package to ensure veterans receive timely care. Meet the needs of the customers while supporting VA missions. Consistently communicates and treats customers (Veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures. Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately. Physical Requirements: The work of the incumbent can be sedentary, but requires moving, lifting, bending, pulling, pushing equipment in the property distribution area. There is walking, standing, bending and carrying of items up to 60 lbs. such as equipment and supplies provided to beneficiaries. The work environment involves everyday risks with storage and administrative areas. It also requires normal safety precautions typical of such areas.
