JOB DESCRIPTION: This is a brief description; it is not comprehensive

The ERC Energy Auditor conducts assessments of residential properties to identify energy efficiency improvements. They evaluate insulation, heating and cooling systems, ventilation, and air sealing to determine energy-saving opportunities. The auditor provides recommendations for weatherization measures, such as insulation upgrades, air sealing, and energy-efficient appliances, and ensures that all work meets energy codes and industry standards. The ERC Energy Auditor also prepares detailed reports and assists in ensuring compliance with relevant Federal and state programs and regulations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Conduct Energy Assessments: Perform thorough evaluations of residential properties to assess energy consumption and identify areas for improvement. Conducts home inspections and energy audits in accordance with standards and CEO guidelines and priorities, to determine weatherization measures.

Inspect Building Components: Examine insulation, HVAC systems, doors, windows, appliances, and other building components to identify energy inefficiencies.

Use Diagnostic Equipment: Operate tools such as blower doors, infrared cameras, and gas leak detectors to assess air leakage, insulation quality, and system performance. Provides educational component.

Recommend Energy Efficiency Measures: Provide homeowners with actionable recommendations for improvements, such as insulation, air sealing, and energy-efficient equipment.

Generate Reports: Document findings and create detailed reports outlining energy-saving opportunities, cost estimates, and expected benefits and keep accurate records of audits, reports, and any work completed, ensuring all documentation is up to date and accessible.

Ensure Code Compliance: Ensure that recommended measures comply with local building codes, industry standards, and relevant energy efficiency programs.

Calculate Energy Savings: Use industry tools and software to calculate potential energy savings and return on investment for recommended improvements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or equivalent with 1 to 3 years of previous experience in home construction or maintenance, carpentry or related areas -or- any equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screening and will be subject to a criminal background check and motor vehicle report. (See job-specific qualifications below):

Valid Colorado driver's license or the ability to obtain one within 2 weeks and a good driving record.

Must be proficient in all weatherization and insulation procedures (prior experience as Energy Efficiency Technician I-III preferred)

Existing Building Performance Institute certifications preferred.

Conceptual, analytical, and practical understanding of energy modeling computer software.

Ability to self-educate and stay current with new energy efficiency technologies, building codes, and regulations and ability to attend applicable trainings as required.

Has utilized or has ability to use Energy Auditing software.

PREFERRED SKILLS: (Licensing/Certification)

Must hold relevant certifications such as BPI (Building Performance Institute) Energy Auditor or be able to obtain within 18 months of hire.

Ability to understand cost-savings in relation to home energy efficiency.

Ability to discern between different @types of home and layouts in home construction

REPORTS TO: Field Operations Manager

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: No supervisory responsibility

TRAVEL: Travel IS required to perform audits throughout Colorado inside ERC service regions.

WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: These are essential functions and are required to perform the work effectively. Must be able to lift and carry heavy equipment, such as diagnostic tools, infrared cameras, blower door systems, and other energy auditing devices, typically ranging from 25 to 50 pounds. Must be Comfortable using ladders to assess attic spaces, roofs, and other elevated areas, sometimes up to 20 feet high. Ability to bend, kneel, or crawl in tight spaces such as crawl spaces, basements, attics, and behind walls to inspect and assess building conditions for energy inefficiency. Must be able to work in confined, dusty, or poorly lit spaces, as well as in extreme temperature conditions (hot, cold, or humid) when conducting assessments in various areas of the home or building.
