Construction Laborer / Installation Specialist - Per Diem Offered
Job Description
The Construction Laborer / Installation Specialist installs commercial playground equipment and custom shade structures at job sites across the United States. This is a hands-on, travel-based role that combines field construction work with time in a manufacturing facility. You will assemble large outdoor play and shade structures, operate heavy equipment and tools, interpret installation drawings and layouts, and help create safe, inclusive, and engaging outdoor environments for communities and schools.
Responsibilities
Travel to job sites nationwide to install playground, recreation, and shade structures, driving a company or rental vehicle to local sites and flying to distant locations as needed.
Assemble and install large play and shade structures using hand tools, power tools, and job site equipment such as skid steers, boom lifts, telehandlers, mini excavators, and scissor lifts.
Read and follow installation layouts, schematics, blueprints, weld symbols, and written instructions to ensure accurate and compliant installations.
Work independently or as part of a small crew to complete projects efficiently, meeting quality standards and project timelines.
Load, unload, and organize materials, components, and equipment at job sites to support safe and efficient installation activities.
Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe job site at all times, including proper storage of tools and materials and housekeeping of work areas.
Communicate regularly with supervisors and team members regarding project status, timelines, site conditions, and any issues or delays.
Manage personal travel logistics, including transportation, lodging, and scheduling, in coordination with company travel arrangements and policies.
Submit accurate and timely expense reports and related documentation in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Use Microsoft Outlook and other basic Microsoft Office tools to manage communication, schedules, and project-related information.
Follow standardized work instructions and documented procedures as part of the company's quality management system.
Ensure compliance with applicable quality and environmental standards, including ISO 9001, customer requirements, and internal procedures.
Adhere to all safety procedures, including machine guarding, lockout/tagout, proper lifting techniques, and use of required personal protective equipment.
Participate in safety audits and immediately report near misses, incidents, and unsafe conditions to support a strong safety culture.
Perform basic quality checks on installed structures and components to verify correct assembly, alignment, and secure fastening.
Apply basic math skills to measure, layout, and verify dimensions (including pounds, feet, and inches) for foundations, anchor points, and structural components.
Operate vehicles, mechanical devices, and heavy equipment safely and responsibly on job sites and within the manufacturing facility.
Work in a non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility when not traveling, supporting construction, mechanical installation, and related production tasks.
Maintain strong organization and time management to balance travel, installation schedules, reporting, and communication requirements.
Essential Skills
Previous experience in construction, installation, or a closely related field.
Ability to safely operate heavy equipment, including telehandlers, skid steers, scissor lifts, and other job site machinery.
Proficiency using hand tools and power tools for construction and mechanical installation tasks.
Ability to read and understand basic blueprints, schematics, installation layouts, and weld symbols.
Ability to accurately read a tape measure and apply basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) using pounds, feet, and inches.
Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record and ability to drive company or rental vehicles to local job sites.
Ability and willingness to travel overnight up to approximately 50% of the time for national job site work.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with supervisors, team members, and on-site partners.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a small team in field and manufacturing environments.
Basic computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and particularly Microsoft Outlook for email and scheduling.
Self-directed work style with strong organizational and time management skills.
Ability to lift and carry 50-75 pounds on a regular basis.
Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and climb frequently throughout the workday.
Ability to work outdoors in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience with concrete, carpentry, and general construction trades.
Experience in mechanical installation of structural components and assemblies.
Comfort working in a traveling role with changing job sites and schedules.
Experience performing quality checks on construction or installation work.
Familiarity with TIG welding and basic weld identification is beneficial.
Ability to perform basic quality inspections and follow standardized quality procedures.
Experience operating heavy equipment such as telehandlers, skid steers, scissor lifts, and other construction machinery.
Ability to work in a non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility when not on the road.

Work Environment
This role splits time between national outdoor job sites and a manufacturing facility environment. Approximately half of the work involves building large play and shade structures at parks, schools, recreational facilities, and other outdoor spaces across the country, often in varying and sometimes extreme weather conditions. The other half is spent in a non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility supporting construction and installation-related tasks. The position is travel-based, with overnight stays as needed, and work schedules may vary depending on weather, project timelines, and job site location. Heavy equipment, hand tools, and power tools are used regularly, and all required tools and equipment are provided. Personal protective equipment and adherence to safety procedures are integral parts of the work environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dallas, TX.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
