Temporary City Clerk

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM (office is closed every other Friday). Occasional evening hours are required for City Council meetings and special events.

Our client is seeking an experienced City Clerk or closely related municipal professional to support legislative and administrative operations. The ideal candidate will have experience with City Clerk functions, public records, agenda management, and City Council meeting support. Candidates with closely related public sector experience may also be considered.

Responsibilities

Prepare, compile, and distribute City Council agendas and meeting packets.

Attend City Council meetings and other public meetings, including evening meetings as needed.

Record, prepare, and maintain official meeting minutes.

Maintain ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and other official records.

Process Public Records Act requests.

Coordinate legal notices, public hearings, and required publications.

Maintain records retention and document management systems.

Ensure compliance with the Brown Act, Public Records Act, and other applicable municipal regulations.

Provide administrative support to the City Clerk's office and assist internal departments and the public with records requests and inquiries.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications

Previous experience as a City Clerk, Deputy City Clerk, Assistant City Clerk, or in a closely related municipal government role preferred.

Experience supporting City Council, Planning Commission, or other governing board meetings.

Working knowledge of the Brown Act, Public Records Act, records retention, and municipal procedures.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.

Highly organized and able to manage confidential information.

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); experience with agenda management or records management software is a plus.

Must be available to work occasional evenings for City Council meetings and special events.
