Job Summary
We are currently seeking an Airport Safety Technician II. This position is a full-time opportunity located in Egg Harbor Township, NJ.
Airport Safety Technicians apply specialized electrical, mechanical, and fabrication skills to maintain facilities, vehicles, assets, and infrastructure, and to construct project-related mockups, equipment, or proto@type devices as required by test plans, standard engineering drawings, or other sources. Technicians in this role also perform firefighting operations during testing and work under the supervision of a senior technician. Work schedules follow the Government's regular working hours, Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week.
This role involves exposure to outdoor weather conditions across all seasons and requires the use of personal protective equipment during firefighting operations. Occasional travel may be required approximately two to three times per year.
Responsibilities
As an Airport Safety Technician, the selected individual will apply hands-on technical skills to support airport safety research operations, fabrication, and firefighting activities. Responsibilities may include:
Perform welding, fabricating, basic electrical tasks, and installation of sensors in support of test operations.
Perform firefighting operations during testing, including wearing full personal protective equipment.
Construct project-related mockups, equipment, or proto@type devices from test plans, standard engineering drawings, or other sources.
Troubleshoot and conduct maintenance on equipment including small engines, vehicles, and machine tools.
Produce technical written documentation to support the generation of technical reports or documents for the program manager.
Follow all safety policies and procedures applicable to testing and facility operations.
Report activities and completed work in accordance with established procedures.
Key Qualifications
High school diploma and a minimum of 5 years of experience demonstrating electrical, mechanical, and/or fabrication skills.
Experience testing various electrical or mechanical components.
Experience in firefighting operations.
Experience wearing - and willingness to wear - personal protective equipment, including full or half-faced respirators or Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).
Ability to lift equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
Ability to withstand exposure to outdoor temperatures during both summer and winter conditions.
Must possess a valid, state-issued driver's license.
Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision or direction from senior project personnel.
Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to produce technical written documentation and follow written and verbal instructions.
Must be a US citizen or a foreign national who has been lawfully admitted for permanent residence.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience operating common machining tools such as mills, lathes, and drill presses.
Experience with hydraulic systems and mechanical and electrical equipment.
Experience as a forklift operator.
Experience in and/or specific knowledge of airport-related research activities, including familiarity with airport safety research task areas or closely related tasks.
Compensation Data
Battelle is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The salary range for this role is $55,300 - $76,000 per year, in addition to our comprehensive benefits package. A candidate's salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, skills, and certifications. Salary ranges may vary based on geographic location and market conditions.
