Description We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to join a non-profit organization in Kenosha, Wisconsin for a Contract assignment focused on improving the accuracy of historical financial records. This role will concentrate on reviewing prior-period activity, resolving discrepancies, and strengthening the reliability of accounting data in QuickBooks Online. The ideal candidate brings strong reconciliation expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently while keeping leadership informed on progress and key issues.

Responsibilities:

Examine prior accounting activity to verify accuracy, investigate irregularities, and determine appropriate corrections.

Resolve coding errors affecting the general ledger by analyzing transaction history and applying proper account treatment.

Complete reconciliations for bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and other key records to ensure financial data is fully supported.

Review accounts receivable activity, identify unreconciled items, and address outstanding variances in customer balances.

Assess payroll-related entries to confirm transactions are recorded in the correct accounts and align with supporting records.

Prepare and record journal entries, including adjustments needed to correct historical accounting issues.

Support month-end close efforts through account analysis and follow-up on unresolved items impacting financial reporting.

Maintain clear documentation of research performed, corrections made, and reconciliation steps taken for auditability and continuity.

Partner with organizational leadership to communicate project status, summarize findings, and recommend process improvements that reduce future discrepancies. Requirements - 3+ years of accounting experience, with a strong foundation in financial record maintenance and account analysis.

Demonstrated experience working with general ledger activity, journal entries, and month-end close responsibilities.

Proven ability to perform account, bank, and balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies efficiently.

Working knowledge of payroll accounting, including review of related transactions and account classifications.

Strong understanding of debits, credits, and the relationship between underlying entries and financial statements.

Experience using QuickBooks, with QuickBooks Online strongly preferred.

Proficiency in Excel and the ability to manage a high-volume cleanup project with limited supervision.
