Job Title: Software Engineer - Automated Electro-Mechanical Systems!!
Job Description
This hands-on software engineering role focuses on building and supporting production software that directly drives automated electro-mechanical systems. You will own features end-to-end, from initial concept through implementation, deployment, and ongoing support. This position is ideal for a mid-level engineer who wants meaningful responsibility, technical influence, and daily interaction with real hardware rather than working solely in an IDE. You will be a core contributor on a small, collaborative team where your ideas help shape design decisions, software standards, and best practices.
Responsibilities
Own and support existing production software used in automated equipment, ensuring reliability, performance, and maintainability.
Design, develop, and implement new features, enhancements, and bug fixes across the full software development lifecycle.
Work hands-on with electro-mechanical hardware and motion-controlled equipment to understand system behavior, diagnose issues, and optimize performance.
Develop Windows-based applications primarily using C#, applying solid object-oriented programming principles.
Build and maintain database-driven functionality using SQL, including database queries and basic database design.
Create intuitive and reliable user interfaces using WPF and established design patterns suited for desktop applications.
Debug and troubleshoot software issues on Windows systems, including multi-threaded and multi-processor scenarios.
Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams to integrate software with hardware systems.
Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and the development of software standards and best practices within the team.
Contribute to an Agile development environment by participating in sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and iterative delivery of software features.
Work independently on assigned tasks while staying aligned with team goals, timelines, and architectural direction.
Provide ongoing support for deployed applications, including investigating field issues and implementing robust fixes.
Essential Skills
3 to 6 years of professional software development experience.
Strong experience developing Windows-based applications.
Proficiency in C# with a solid object-oriented programming foundation.
Experience developing software for machines or electro-mechanical products.
Hands-on experience with SQL databases and database design.
Experience with multi-threaded and multi-processor application development.
Experience with WPF for building desktop user interfaces.
Comfort working directly with hardware, mechanical systems, and motion-controlled equipment.
Experience working in an Agile development environment.
Strong debugging skills on Windows operating systems.
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high quality standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience supporting production software used in automated equipment or robotics.
Experience in application development that integrates software with hardware systems.
Exposure to C++ and Python for supplementary tooling or components.
Experience collaborating with mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing teams.
Interest in the biotech industry and robotics applications.
Ability to contribute to software standards, architecture discussions, and best practices for a small, agile team.
Work Environment
This is an onsite role in a nice facility with a modern office environment and abundant natural sunlight. The team supports applications used in the biotech and robotics fields, offering exposure to cutting-edge automated electro-mechanical systems. You will work primarily with Windows-based technologies, including C#, WPF, and SQL, in a collaborative, Agile software development setting. The organization promotes good work-life balance, with it being very rare to work outside normal business hours, and fosters a supportive culture with effective leadership and a focus on quality engineering practices.
