Job Description
This role offers the opportunity to join a fast-growing manufacturer that operates with strong family values and is recognized as a leading panel builder on the West Coast. You will transform complex customer requirements into practical, real-world low- and medium-voltage power distribution and control solutions. Working closely with engineering and manufacturing teams, you will design and support power distribution and control systems for customers around the world. The position blends application knowledge with electrical and electronic design, mechanical considerations, manufacturing, quality, and safety, providing a dynamic environment with diverse challenges and a collaborative, goal-focused culture.
Responsibilities
Oversee electrical designs for low- and medium-voltage switchgear, switchboards, panelboards, and control panels.
Review customer drawings and specifications to develop designs that meet technical and functional requirements.
Create one-line and three-line power distribution drawings and detailed electrical control schematics.
Size electrical components such as transformers, current transformers, fuses, cabling, bussing, and circuit breakers in accordance with UL 891 and NEC standards.
Develop sequences of operation for power distribution and control equipment to ensure safe and reliable performance.
Create testing plans and procedures for power distribution and control systems to verify compliance and functionality.
Support manufacturing teams by providing clear design documentation, guidance, and clarification during production.
Assist testing and quality teams to ensure that equipment is built and tested in alignment with design intent and industry standards.
Provide technical support to field service teams to resolve design-related issues and ensure proper implementation in the field.
Configure and program devices such as PLCs, VFDs, protective relays, transfer switches, circuit breakers, and controllers.
Collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to deliver optimal, cost-effective, and reliable solutions.
Contribute to custom engineering solutions for low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear and panel systems tailored to specific customer needs.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date design documentation and drawings using electrical CAD tools.
Apply knowledge of UL, IEEE/ANSI, NEC, and NFPA standards to ensure designs meet applicable codes and safety requirements.
Essential Skills
At least 2 years of relevant electrical design experience in power distribution, control panels, or related systems (preferred).
At least 1 year of hands-on control panel exposure, including design, layout, or integration.
Proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical for creating one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, and detailed schematics.
Experience using SolidWorks Electrical for panel layout and electrical design.
Working knowledge of UL 891 and UL 508A standards for switchboards, panelboards, and industrial control panels.
Working knowledge of IEEE/ANSI standards relevant to power distribution and control equipment.
Working knowledge of NEC and NFPA 70E requirements for electrical safety and code compliance.
Ability to design and interpret electrical schematics and control system diagrams.
Ability to size and select electrical components such as transformers, fuses, cabling, bussing, and circuit breakers.
Experience with control systems and control panel design, including integration of multiple devices.
Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with engineering, manufacturing, operations, quality, and field service teams.
Ability to develop sequences of operation and testing plans for power distribution and control equipment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience with SolidWorks Electrical, AutoCAD Electrical, and EPLAN for electrical design and documentation.
Familiarity with Zuken or similar electrical CAD tools for schematic design and panel documentation.
Electrical engineering or a related discipline, with an emphasis on power distribution and control systems.
Experience configuring and programming PLCs, VFDs, protective relays, transfer switches, circuit breakers, and controllers.
Exposure to custom engineering solutions for low- and medium-voltage switchgear and panel systems.
Ability to work in a cross-functional environment and contribute to continuous improvement in design and manufacturing processes.
Interest in ongoing training and professional development in electrical design, standards, and safety.
Comfort working in a fast-growing organization with a strong emphasis on teamwork, quality, and customer satisfaction.
